Work Out Wednesday: Thanksgiving!

This morning I stepped out of the shower and onto the scale.

I held my breath (as if that would make a difference) and watched the numbers roll around until they settled on a number. I was down TEN POUNDS!

I let out a sigh of relief, because I have been working my butt off (literally!) and I was scared that it I wouldn’t see results. I’ve been counting my calories, working out at least three times a week and pushing myself to try new things at the gym so that I get smaller and stronger.

When I wrote the first Work Out Wednesday post my goal was to drop 20 pounds before the end of 2010. That was two months ago, and honestly I thought I’d be further along but I’m happy with my progress. Of course, the hard part is going to be keeping my weight down during the holidays… This year I’m staying in New York for Thanksgiving and I’m hosting Thanksgiving dinner, so I’m going to have lots of leftovers to battle.

I know myself and it would be sooo easy for me to step on the scale after Turkey Day and see five additional pounds. Although I dont want to go crazy and undo all my hard work… on Turkey Day, I plan on eating!

I. Can. Not. Fall. Off. The. Wagon!

So, what’s a girl to d0?

I think I have to keep my fitness game on par, with no excuses/exceptions. I might have to become one of those annoying people who hits the gym on Thanksgiving day! I’m really hoping that being halfway to my 2010 goal will be enough of an incentive for me to stay on track. I’ll let you know how things go next week.

*fingers crossed*

Anyway, how’s everyone else doing? Also, what do YOU do to stay healthy during the Holidays?

  1. I FINALLY returned to the gym! Why, cuz I had to take out a pair of my big-girl pants! Yup. So I’m back. My main goal is to lose 100lbs before I move to LA (August 2011). I’m so confident I can do it. And yes, I’m hosting Thanksgiving too. And yes, I will be in the gym the morning after Thanksgiving. Can’t undo all this hardwork!

  2. Awesome job! I too have been batteling the bulge and finally lost 5 lbs after 2 months. It was such a great feeling to finally see that scale move.

Keep it up girl! My #1 plan of attack on Turkey Day is to drink lots of water and cut back on my alcohol intake.

  3. So happy for you lady! I wish my work out regime was going as well. Although, I did decide that I will be hitting the gym just before I put the Turkey in tomorrow. 🙂 Happy Holidays!

  4. Good job!! That is pretty awesome! Just be careful about the speedy weight loss – from experience I can say that high numbers every week not ideal. But good job on the 10! Woo hoo!!

I am cooking for thanksgiving and making some healthy (and some not so healthy) dishes.

I will also be heading to the gym on turkey day! A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do!

    Happy thanksgiving!!!

  5. Congratulations and lol @ holding in your breath! I’ve done the same, when stepping on a scale.

I have no doubts that you’ll stay conscious of your progress (no, achievements) and respond accordingly on Thanksgiving day! It is a time to enjoy good eats, but there is nothing wrong with setting limits or practicing moderation. I think of food as a “side dish” during the holidays. The time I’m able to spend with friends and family, is my “main course,” and where I devote much of my time and attention.

I won’t be in the gym this year, but I will be participating in a ‘turkey trot’ with some of my family members and sorority sisters. A 5-mile walking event, in the early morning.

Hope you enjoy your holiday! =)

  6. Congratulations!! My advice is easy: no leftovers! Be a great hostess and say goobye to the people you love with a box full of yummy leftovers. I’m sure they will appreciate.
One single meal won’t spoil all your hard work, but a whole week of eating leftovers will. At least that’s what I try to do, and if there’s something left I can always freeze it.

  7. Congratulations! I’ve been floating at the same weight for the past two weeks (I’m attributing it to thanksgiving) blah. But I’ve stopped working out and that may be to blame (exam season is ruining my groove).

  8. Congrats!

Keep up the good work and keep updating us. The more I read about your success the more I want to get my act together.
I need to lose 30-40lbs by my wedding in September so reading this is just the kick in the rear I need to get it done…seeing others getting it done.

    xoxo
