What is Self Care?

Hey dolls,

September is Self-Care Awareness Month! 🌟 I’m so excited to kick off this special month with you all. Let’s dive right in and chat about something near and dear to my heart: self-care and how it’s transformed my life in some amazing ways.

I know you might have some questions about self-care, and I’m here to help.

 

I’ve been doing a lot more confidence workshops with in schools and I find that speaking about self care from the perspective of a child makes the whole thing a lot less intimidating. Here are some of the top questions students ask me about self care:

What’s Self-Care?

Great question! Self-care is like giving yourself a big, warm hug from the inside out. It’s doing things that make you feel good and happy, like taking deep breaths, reading a fun book, or having a yummy snack.

How Do I Do Self Care?

You’re a natural, doll! Doing self-care is as easy as doing things that make your heart smile. Drawing a picture, hugging your favorite teddy bear (I still do this!), or even just laughing with your family – those are all super special ways to practice self-care.

How Do I Start Practicing Self Care?

You’re a little superstar! You can start by thinking about the things that make you happy and cozy. Maybe it’s wearing your comfiest PJs, having a yummy fruit snack, or telling a joke that makes everyone giggle. Remember, doll, self-care is all about you feeling amazing!

My Hair & Self Care

Dolls, taking care of my hair has been like giving it a big, loving hug. From deciding to install sisterlocks, to learning how to take care of them with everything from nourishing oils to gentle shampoos, my haircare routine is all about showing my locks some serious love. Healthy hair is happy hair, and I’ve learned that taking time for my hair is like taking time for myself.

My Skin & Self Care

Oh, the skin – our body’s BFF! Treating my skin kindly is a must– often we just think about our face, but when I talk skin, I’m talking all the way from my face to my toes. Over the years I’ve taken time to create a routine for the skin on my face, scalp, body, hands and feet that includes moisturizing, wearing sunscreen, and giving my skin a little massage – it’s like a little spa day every day.

My Home & Self Care

Creating a cozy space where I feel like a true doll has been a game-changer for my mental, spiritual physical and emotion health. Curating the scent of my home from candles to hand soap to detergent. Tidying up and surrounding myself with things that bring joy – it’s self-care for my soul. A happy home means a happy heart!

My Fitness & Self Care

Moving my body has become my daily joy party. Finding workouts that I love, from dancing to walking to cycling, has been pure magic. Staying active isn’t just about the body – it’s about the joy and energy it brings to my whole day.

Remember, my beautiful dolls, self-care isn’t just about taking care of your body – it’s about loving yourself, feeling confident, and creating the life you want. So, let’s embrace this journey of self-love, self-care, and self-confidence together and make this month truly magical!
