Weight Loss Check In!

Last week the women’s locker room at the gym was a circus. All the lockers were taken and the ones that were empty were broken. The place was a sea of bright colored thongs and heads wrapped in white towels. Standing in the middle of the chaos were three women in their coats waiting for a locker to open up.

“I can’t WAIT for January to be ovah,” one of them said while smacking her gum. Then she waved a finger around the locker room, “Alllll of ya’ll will be GONE by February!”

Everyone knows that January is resolution time. Gym memberships, salads and bottles of water are all the rage with everyone, myself included. But I really want to keep momentum, I don’t want to be “GONE by February!” like the girl in the locker room predicted.

Over the holidays I gained seven pounds. So, I’ve been working intensely to get that weight off. Robert says gaining seven pounds over Christmas is “not that bad” but I know that I had lofty goals to possibly lose a few pounds during that time.

So far I’m down 5.8 and I’m hoping that by months end I’ll be down the full seven pounds. Then February will be all about moving towards my long-term weight loss goals, the first of which is to lose 30 pounds by the summer (if you’re wondering why I want to lose, I discussed it here last week).

One of the things that has helped me is to schedule my workouts in my calendar. I got that tip from a friend who’s finishing an online education course in fitness training. Looking at my calendar reminds me that I have options to take vigorous classes 6 days a week and seeing those appointments really helps me to make that a priority.

Anyway, I just thought I’d check in with everyone since January is usually a time when we set goals. What are your health fitness goals? How has January been for you?

I’ll be responding to all comments, so chime in below!

  9. Ugh. I gained 7lbs in the month of December too! I lost 3.6 the first week of January, then 1.2 the next week….the next. I’m on a program, I’ve been consistent with the Gym for over a year (just like you) and I’ve even added 30min of spinning to my exercise routine (5x a week). Yet, I think I went down a pants size. TALK ABOUT FRUSTRATED!

      1. *sigh* our bodies are crazy, right?! Super frustrating, I know…

I can’t believe you’re doing spinning!!! I know its an amazing workout but I just can’t sit on those bike seats for that long haha… here’s to losing our 7 pounds AND MORE!!! xoxo

  13. I’ve been working on my healthy goals since August and am continuing through the winter even though I’m working 2 jobs right now. My gym has this holiday survival challenge during the holiday season where you have a goal to work out 3 times a week which I participated in so I managed to lose about 10 pounds between November 15-January 8. Good luck with your goals CeCe! I absolutely love your blog!

I worked 2 jobs a while back and the gym was the FIRST thing that flew out the window… kudos to you for keeping up with your fitness routine. I’m impressed! xoxo

  17. My weight loss goals have been steady for a couple months now and there have good times and not so good times, haha. I’ve taken some nutrition classes and realize that unless I’m forcing a strict diet and exercise regime forever, it will be very difficult to keep myself from gaining even the smallest amount. I’m mostly concerned with my overall health, and surprising being a Plus Sized Princess-my health is pretty good 🙂 . Keep on keeping on ladies, never give up!

    1. The nutrition part is what I struggle with… I’m trying to make better choices. I know that changing the way I eat will make this whole thing easier, but its hard to make the adjustments sometimes 🙂 Baby steps….

      1. It’s so tough! Especially being on the go 24/7, but I think you’re doing a great job so far, I mean tons of other people-of all sizes- aren’t exercising at all so you’re already way ahead!

  21. Actually, I’m quite proud because I’ve lost 10 lbs this year despite dealing with a lot of tough issues, and I haven’t gained anything during the holidays 🙂 I’ve started working out again and it’s been GREAT for my back pains ! I have about 45 lbs to lose, which will still make me weigh 200 lbs at the end, but I’m okay with that. I feel really good because I exercise more than I ever did and eat well, and even though I don’t lose a LOT of weight (dealing with Polykystic ovary syndrome too), I don’t mind.

    1. I’ve noticed that if I stop working out, I get muscle spasms in my lower back. One more reason to keep going! Congrats on the 10lbs!!! xoxo

    2. Vanessa, sounds like we’re in similar situations between the back pain and amount of weight we are both looking to shed. I’d love to hear how you’re doing it, as I’m just getting started myself 🙂

      1. Hi 🙂 I’m not doing a ‘typical’ weight loss program. I was thinking about it last year, and wondering WHAT am I doing wrong? Why am I big? And I figured out a couple of main things that I do wrong and that make me gain/maintain weight. Since then, I’ve mostly been changing habits that I had that were not healthy. That includes taking smaller portions of food (I eat well, but too much !), exercising regularly (almost everyday, but not for long. I’m a Uni student and I’m very busy during the week). I’ve also been making changes on my sleep habits ! I tend to sleep 5-6 hours a night, and then I am exhausted and eating to make up for the lack of energy lol, which doesn’t work too well 🙂
Anyway, I’d be interesting in hearing how you are doing it yourself, and interested about any tips you might have to share 🙂

  25. Im actually amazed that I’ve managed to drop about 10 lbs in January despite being sidelined from the gym by a nasty fall. I’ve cut out soda, incorporated green smoothies and am pseudo following my weight watchers program. Hoping I will see even better results once I get the all clear to get back into the gym (check up tomorrow). A great new burger place opening up that not only has an amazing veggie burger but also gives you a lettuce wrap option has helped too!

    1. Thanks for the reminder, we have a burger place like that and I’ve been wanting to try it! 10 pounds down with NO Exercise? You’re amazing! Hope your back feels better… 😀

  29. I’ve managed to drop 6 pounds so far this month. I have been watching what I’m eat (hello salad and fruit smoothies)! I have also been using the P90 workout program. I am loving the results so far! Keep up your hard work CeCe!

    1. Whoa you’re doing the P90 program? *bows down* I feel like I’d need to train a few weeks before starting that– nice job!

  33. I’m recovering from a broken ankle so it’s been hard to be less active than I usually am. I have not gained any weight but I feel “soft” so I’m trying to work out with weights a bit and eliminate refined sugar, my most difficult challenge by far. I’ve promised myself a pair of expensive (low-heeled) boots if i can get through 21 days of no sugar. My health is actually pretty good (when they operated on my ankle, the doctor said with surprise “your health is very good! that will make the surgery much easier” I’ m a size 22 so people are always surprised – but that’s a rant for another time). Anyway, if anyone has ideas for non-weight bearing exercised, I’d be interested. And CONGRATS on your weight loss Cece – I hope you have a great reward planned for meeting that goal.

  34. I work at a gym and its so funny to see it get crowded January 2nd. Its already clearing out!

I have a good 50 pounds to lose though an ankle injury and the flu have prevented me from getting going on that. I’m starting a much-needed body cleanse tomorrow which I’m excited about. Keeping up with my workouts is pretty easy since I work at a gym and have to constantly watch people work out. Its actually good motivation. Wish me luck!

  38. Hi CeCe! My name is Emily and I love your blog(: So, I’m 15 and I loove fashion, and my favorite color is Pink. Also I have PSOS as well, now I haven’t gotten everything figured out through my doctor yet so that’s pretty hard. But one thing i’m trying to figure out now is how to loose weight and that’s so hard too!!! Now for a plus size girl who is 5’11, I kinda look like a giant… So that is where I have found some motivation to loose weight that way I am not so self conscience. Have you noticed how expensive plus size clothes are? There’s another motivation…it’s so hard for my family to afford clothes! And I can’t even share clothes with my friends because i’m so much bigger than them…. Anywho, enough about my life story haha….What I was going to say is you inspire me and I look up to you(: And I’m am glad I have found this blog 😀
    Thank you!

Anywho, enough about my life story haha….What I was going to say is you inspire me and I look up to you(: And I’m am glad I have found this blog :DThank you!

  42. This January doesn’t seem so busy for me. I’m a NYC personal trainer and my clients are thin and thick women. Although I seem to be the one of the very few personal trainers who enjoy training the big girls. I also am on a personal fitness journey myself. I want to be the big girl in the crochet bikini. Thin is and never will be what I want for myself. I actually love the voluptuous full sensual look with the body.

I have a personal trainer and he takes me to a state of intensity that I could never do myself 3 times a week. The things that we do is awesome and maybe scary if I think about it too much. And I take Spinning class (Flywheel) 2-3 time a week and do another 3 hours of cardio on the elliptical.

      1. Awww…Thanks so much. I just took a glance about the criticism you received about working out and losing weight but calling your blog The Big Girl Blog. So many of us still don’t get it. But I think you do!
