When we pulled up to Great Maple, there was a long line of people perched in the parking lot waiting patiently for their names to be called. I was hungry, but usually a line means the food is worth it.
It was New Years Day and I was enjoying a gorgeous sunny day in Southern California instead of the bomb cyclone back in New York City, so I was not going to complain about a long wait for brunch.
If you follow my instagram stories, you may have seen me being a *tiny* bit petty about my sunny New Years towards Chastity after she called me from her frozen tundra in Atlanta… I swear I tried to leave my petty in 2017, but it didn’t work. Pray for me, ya’ll!
Anyway, we added our names to the list for a table and passed the time chatting and sipping on complimentary coffee provided by the restaurant. The time passed quickly and soon we were seated for brunch.
Great Maple was a pleasant surprise– we ordered a few different items and everything was amazing.
Everyone started with cocktails, but I had to drive back to Los Angeles after brunch so I decided to try the Lavender Latte. First of all, the Lavender Latte is covered in edible glitter which was enough of a reason for me to order it. Secondly, the combination of Lavender and coffee was something I’d never had before and I loved it– they made mine with Almond milk.

Great Maple also does a lovely lavender lemonade, super refreshing!
I had the Hardwood Smoked Bacon Scramble Melt: Smoked Bacon, California Avocado, Fresh Basil, Tomato & Mozzarella Cheese made with Free Range Eggs, a Cheese Melted Crown and a Scallion Potato Cake on the side.
My suggestion would be to order a savory breakfast dish and then share the decadent french toast with the table for dessert.
They have an adorable outdoor patio (eating al fresco is my favorite), so next time I’ll try to snag a seat outside to take full advantage of the San Diego sunshine.
Was brunch at Great Maple worth the wait? Absolutely!

Tip: Great Maple doesn’t have a large parking lot but on weekends (and holidays) you can park in the DMV parking lot behind the restaurant.
The biggest surprise from brunch was how much you guys loved this outfit. When I posted this photo on my instagram and my DMs were flooded with requests for the details.
