“#PSPfit: Steal the get-fit secrets of plus-size women” Um… how amazing is that?? Healthy Curves at Every Size is something to be celebrated and the fact that +size women can be considered fitness experts with “secrets” worth stealing… I’m just beside myself. Should we tell them that our number one secret is that we love ourselves at ANY size? 😉

#PSPfit $21 January Jump Start: You Can Join From Any City! (FAQ’s)

Its official, your girl definitely got a little “puffy” over the holidays (definitely not good for my PCOS) so, I’m ready to bounce back.

The #PSPfit January Jumpstart we’ve planned is getting me back to the basics and based on the emails I’ve been getting I wont be doing this alone… I’m stoked!

The January Jumpstart is 21 days for $21 dollars in order to let everyone “dip their toe in the water” and see what #PSPfit is all about. A full on #PSPfit boot camp is no joke, so we want to make sure everyone has a good foundation as we go hard in 2014.

Lots of questions have been coming in about the #PSPfit January Jump Start. Below are the top three questions I’ve been answering via email (including a program breakdown). 1.) I don’t live in NYC, can I still join #PSPfit? YES MA’AM! 90% of #PSPfit happens via email, conference calls and our invitation only facebook group (moderated by our nutrition coach and myself). You don’t have to live in NYC to do #PSPfit and this round is going to be 100% virtual. We’ve got #PSPfit Boot Camp Babes all over the US, London, Canada, The Phillipines, Australia… etc. so join the bunch, no girl is excluded!

#PSPfit Clean & Green Boot Camp (21 Days for $21)

Greetings from California, hope you’re having a fabulous holiday! I’m hibernating with my family but I did want to check in with you girls on #PSPfit stuff.

How has your holiday food/fitness been?

Bad news from my end, I’ve been breaking out, my eczema is acting up and my period started three days later than it should have. A year ago that wouldn’t have meant anything to me, but working with my nutrition coach is allowing me to understand that my body tells me when I need to get my act together, especially when it comes to my eating. While I don’t regret the good times and good meals I’ve had over the holiday season, clean eating is definitely what my body needs, especially as I try to manage my PCOS.

Excema, acne and an out of whack menstrual cycle is my body saying “Excuse me, those holiday indulgences are messing with your #PSPfit groove!” and just in case I didn’t get the message, I jumped on the scale last week and I’d gained five pounds… womp womp!

There’s some good news, which is that Abra (my nutrition coach) is designing a January detox for me and its going to be 21 days of what she calls “clean and green eating”. I’m excited to get back to my morning smoothies and home cooked meals so I can regain clear skin, timely visits from aunt flow and drop this holiday weight.

Anyway, I was wondering if we could use this 21 day session to test some #PSPfit boot camp changes.

I want to see if we can bring the price down even more… the whole point of #PSPfit is to make professional nutrition coaching available/affordable to any girl who wants it, so I’d like to test out doing 21 days with Abra for $21. If enough people sign up and I can still manage to pay Abra for her time with us, we’ll keep the $21 rate for future boot camps too. *fingers crossed* (Click here to spread to word)

I’ve Lost Weight and Still Feel Like a “Big Girl” (Curvy Convo)

Hey CeCe,

I’ve been reading your blog for quite awhile now. I recently made a decision to lose weight earlier this year. I did a complete diet change, and I have been working out constantly. As of now I have lost over a total of 60lbs.

I am fine with not being skinny. I am more concerned about being healthy. My problem is, I can’t adapt to the “new me.” I guess I shouldn’t say new me because I’ve always been the same person.  Family and Friends constantly compliment me over this major transformation.
Of course, I say thank you and tell them what I’ve been doing to lose the weight. However, In my mind I’m still that “big girl”. I can’t seem to shake her out my life. She’s like a shadow I can’t hide from. I can shop at new places, and my body is more womanly than ever.
How do I learn to let her go? What makes it so hard to say goodbye to the old you?

I know there are some girls reading this who have lost significant amounts of weight… I’m really hoping they’ll leave comments for you down below because they probably have some great advice for us.
You and I have been emailing a bit over the past week, thanks so much for being patient while I  learned how to work my camera and filmed a video response for you… The video is blurry (augh!) but I’m still learning…so, here you go!

From the emails you’ve sent, you seem like a cool and confident girl. Please remember that you haven’t changed and from one size to the next, who you are wont change. We often ask people to look past appearances and see the person inside… I think we have to remember to do the same for ourselves.
Like I said in the video, treating our former/heavier self like a horrible person discounts all of the amazing things we’ve accomplished at a larger size. Life doesn’t begin when we lose weight, so we have to remember to honor all the different stages of our lives that help us to become who we are.
You’re a valuable person at your current size and you were a valuable person 60 pounds ago.

Plus Size Fitness: Our Thighs Touch & We’re Still Crushing Workouts! (Thanks, Lane Bryant!)

A huge Congratulations goes to all of the bootcamp babes who completed #PSPfit: Plus Size Princess Fitness Bootcamp (Cycle 2!). For 30 days we’ve:

1.) Crushed our YouTube workouts

2.) Carefully prepared the recipes our Nutrition Coach, Abra provided

Scrolling through the #PSPfit hashtag on twitter and instagram reminds me that big girls DO work out and eat healthy foods. For the past 30 days I’ve seen #PSPfit Bootcamp Babes embracing yoga, planking for 1:40 seconds, eating kale/quinoa/beats, ditching diet soda skipping processed foods and loving ourselves to health and wellness at any size. As icing on the (almond flour) cake, there are #PSPfit bootcampers who have lost 10… 15… 18.8 pounds this month. For those of us with endocrine issues such as PCOS, weight loss can mean increased fertility and a huge step away from things like diabetes and insulin resistance. *high five*

I’d like to give a little recognition to a few #PSPfit Bootcamp Babes who have  really inspired me this session. Smooches to you all… as a token of my appreciation, I’ll be mailing each of you a $100 gift card to Lane Bryant!

#PSPfit Plus Size Princess Fitness Bootcamp Winners@Kholland5 – I love that you made #PSPfit a family affair, seeing your toddler downing green smoothies for breakfast and hanging with you in the kitchen was so adorable. He’s the official #PSPfit Kids ambassador!

@trekab – Your gorgeous yoga posts are beyond amazing. I know that high level plus size yoga is possible, but seeing your poses held with such strength made it so much more tangible. I hope all aspiring plus size yogi’s check out your instagram page.

@fatnerdytori – First, you win for the cutest instagram name. I kinda wish I was FatNerdyCeCe, but I wont steal your swag. Thank you for being open and honest in the private facebook group. You brought up a few things I hadn’t thought of before and I appreciate your insights!

@lizserna – Liz, you quit smoking cold turkey on day 1 of #PSPfit and you didn’t look back. Need I say more?! Some might say, quitting smoking while doing a boot camp is too much at once, but you jumped in with both feet and took your health by the reigns. I am in awe of your dedication and commitment.

The 45 Pound Mark… #PSPfit

Since I began my #PSPfit journey, I’ve hit the following goals:

  • I can do jumping jacks for a full minute without stopping
  • My periods are coming regularly, to the day
  • When my period comes, I don’t have cramps anymore
  • and I’ve lost 45 pounds

Because I have PCOS, weight loss is important for me if I want to keep my periods regular and someday have babies, so 45 pounds down is a move in the right direction. But all day, I couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t ecstatic about hitting a strong goal.

Finally, it hit me… I’ve done this before. I’ve hit this weight loss milestone before and as good as it feels, its not a guarantee that I wont gain the weight back and have to start all over again… and that’s scary.

In the past when I’ve lost large amounts of weight, its been with extreme diets that were impossible to maintain. Even though I lost weight, I didn’t have the other health changes I’m having now that indicate my body is being renewed from the inside because of the change in my eating.

I know that the #PSPfit way of Clean Eating and Fitness is manageable, its just up to me to keep going with it and make the right decisions for my body.

A huge thank you goes to Abra Pappa, my nutrition coach (who you will be working with during #PSPfit boot camp), she’s opened my eyes to what my body needs to eat and when. She’s got me to try many new things. Her pep-talks have been inspiring and I’m so glad she’s there to hold my hand while head towards my next set of health goals.

As much as I depend on support from Abra, my health is in my hands and to be honest, that’s an intense thought but I’m up to the task. I have to own words like “lifestyle change” and “health at every size” because that’s the kind of thinking that will keep me grounded in what I need to do.

Hey CeCe! Where Can I Find Plus Size Gym Clothes? (feat. @LaneBryant) #PSPfit

So… every time I renew my dedication to fitness, it starts with a shopping trip for new gym clothes. Having a cute outfit is a good excuse to go anywhere, and the gym is no different. #PSPfit Pre-Thanksgiving bootcamp is starting in one week, so I’m pulling my new outfits together as added motivation (register here for virtual boot camp and here for NYC boot camp).

Big Girls DO work out and we don’t need for us to be in sweats and a baggy Tshirt. We should have gear that allows us to bring all of our Plus Size Princess-ness to the gym so that they know we’re not playing any games… is that too much to ask? I don’t think so, but because people assume big girls don’t work out, it can be hard to find.

Thankfully, brands like Lane Bryant Active are changing that and giving me exactly what I need to amp up my gym swag. Do you see this halter top? The back is high enough to hold in my back fat and the front is cut well enough to keep “the twins” in while I’m doing jumping jacks!

Can I Still Have a Social Life? #PSPfit

Do you ever feel like the minute you decide to get on track with your eating, you become super popular?

Last Thursday, I decided that I’d get a jumpstart on Clean Eating so that I could be in a good mindset when #PSPfit boot camp starts. I committed to eating 100% clean (No processed food, no fast food, no alcohol). Since then, I’ve had invites to dinner, drinks and this afternoon I was roped into baking a cake for a company fundraiser, pray for me… my apartment smells amazing but because of my binge eating issues, my plan is to make this cake and not eat any of it *deep breath*

I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s never a “good time” to get your eating on track. There’s never a month with no birthdays or dates or parties, so I have to start figuring out how my social life works when I’m in the process of loving my body through clean eating, which is the best way I’ve found to manage my PCOS. So, once again its up to me to set my priorities. Right now, with #PSPfit boot camp coming up, its easy for me to make the better decision, but its important for me to focus on how to make those decisions when I’m not hyped up to get healthy with you guys.

In #PSPfit Cycle 1, our Nutrition Coach, Abra taught us that ordering off the sides menu is a good place to find clean foods in a restaurant. So, last week when Robert and I went to dinner, he ordered wings and fries, I ordered a sauteed spinach and a salad… and I didn’t even steal one of his fries!

I didn’t have any less fun because I ate clean and I didn’t wake up the next morning feeling like I had to “work off last nights meal” at the gym, which is impossible by the way. I’m so happy with my decision, but I need to remember to make the same choice in two months, ya know?

Anyway– I can’t wait for #PSPfit Boot Camp to start, so we can support each other through the social events and figure out how to navigate the holiday party circuit and still reach/maintain our goals.

Why Are We So Hard on Ourselves?

Confession: I’m a Weight Watchers drop out.

My first 30 pounds came off in one year with Weight Watchers, but then… I began to cheat the system… staying “under my points” but still not eating well (did you know that a Skinny Cow ice-cream bar is only three points? Which means I could have two for dinner and only use six points!) Yeah, it was bad. I gained 10 pounds back. And then… I told myself I couldn’t show my face at a meeting to get weighed in until I had lost the 10 pounds. Which meant I was paying for a membership I wasn’t using, so I canceled it.

A few months after canceling my weight watchers membership, I began to work with my nutritionist and embrace clean eating (bye, bye skinny cow ice-cream bars!) I quickly lost the 10 pounds I had gained, plus eight more and I’m currently hovering over the 40 pound mark. I’m happy with the work I’m putting in, I’m happy with what we’re learning in #PSPfit bootcamp.

Then last week something happened; I ran into my old weight watchers leader and suddenly felt like I wasn’t far enough along, I hadn’t lost enough weight and I was a complete failure.

Did my WW leader ask about my weight? Nope! She asked me how I was doing and we caught up like normal people, but in my head she was looking at me and judging my progress.

Do you have people in your life that you want to see once you’re different in some way? Maybe you fantasize, “the next time I see them I’m going to be ________ ” It could be anything… “next time I’m going to look fabulous/have a great job/be in a fulfilling relationship” …whatever. I think my WW leader is one of those people for me. I think somewhere in the back of my mind, I decided that I the next time I saw her I was going to be significantly smaller… but she made her cameo in my life early and I wasn’t prepared!

I can laugh about it now, but in the moment I was emotional. Seeing her when I wasn’t at my “best” really made me feel like I hadn’t lost ANY weight, which of course is not true and if it was someone else saying this to me, I be telling them they were crazy for having a meltdown. But its different when its me.

Anyway, today I can be more objective– I can say that I am smaller/healthier/fitter than I was at my last WW meeting. I can say that I haven’t reached all of my fitness goals, but I’m closer. I’m eating better and working harder and I’m *this* close to having lost 40 pounds… and just because I’m not where I wanted to be by now, doesn’t mean I’m not farther along than I was before.

*sigh*
