How to Style a White T-shirt & Jeans | One Look, Three Ways

I really do adore effortless style, but sometimes the most simple things can feel awkward on my body. Something as simple as finding a T-shirt in my size that isn’t stiff and boxy or finding the perfect pair of distressed jeans can take a little work. So, maybe effortless style takes a little effort after all, but it’s so worth it!

I love having outfits that I know I can just throw on and feel cool for anything I’m doing. So, today I thought I’d break down How to Style a White T-Shirt and Jeans: One Look, Three Ways.

Let me know which one you like best in the comments!

Hello, Spring Whites & Brights

Have you started turning your closet over for spring yet?

I’m getting better at purging my closet and then going shopping for new items as I need them. This season, I’m looking to bring in more white and brights to my wardrobe. More white items and more bright colors. I typically avoid wearing white because I hate the idea of getting stains on my clothes, but… this season, I’m going to get over it. I guess that’s what the dry cleaners are for, right?

I’m pretty good at finding bright colored dresses, but this season I want to find unexpected bright casual pieces for my wardrobe too. I did a loop at Kohl’s the other day and they came through with some cute for my spring style goals.

From March 28 to April 3, Kohl’s is giving in-store and online customers $10 off $30 plus size apparel, use code PLUSTYLE.

I took advantage and put together two looks, both based around white shoes, let me know which one you like best!

Okay, back to the outfits– which one would you wear? (Click the Next Button for outfit #2!)

CeCe Olisa on the Rachael Ray Show | Plus Size Fashion Segment

Set your DVR, because… I’ll be on the Rachael Ray show doing a plus size fashion segment.

The episode airs Monday (March 28th), I’m not giving any spoilers but the episode should be lots of fun.

In the meantime, here’s what I wore for the segment:

Dress: Eloquii | Shoes: Zappos | Belt (Old)

When I posted this outfit on my YouTube channel, someone asked about wearing skinny belts as a plus size girl, and honestly, the key is shapewear.

Skinny belts have tendencies to creep into a girls, um… “nooks and crannies”. No one wants a skinny belt getting lost, you want it to accent your body nicely and not to budge. So what I do for this look is grab a light pair of shapewear to smooth out any lumps or bumps. My favorite plus size shapewear are maiden form, flexees.

Model or Me: Plus Size Overalls

Model or Me is not a competition. I think it’s body positive to see that items can look just as good on a big girl with lumps as it does on a model with a perfect figure. So, these posts are just my way of leveling the playing field a bit and opening our eyes that we can wear whatever we want. The main point is comparison and seeing that different can be good.

Now on to today’s post where you get to vote if you like it on the model or on me!

Torrid Overall Jean – Black Wash

Torrid Overall

Here are the overalls on the model

My main concern with overalls is how they’ll fit across my tummy. So, I decided to over mine two sizes larger than my pant size. I knew that I could just tighten the straps and customize the fit across my bust.

I was very surprised by how soft the denim is on these, they feel amazing!

I have nothing bad to say about these, I’m pretty much in love. I’ve worn them while running errands and I paired them with heels for a dinner the other night.

How to Shop in the Skinny Section | A Guide for Plus Size Girls

One of the most frustrating (and sometimes painful) parts about being plus size is shopping. I have so many memories of standing awkwardly in the accessories section while my skinny friends shopped. Those situations made me feel left out and took the fun out of shopping.

Thankfully, as my confidence grew, I got comfortable being plus size and shopping at plus size stores. But I was still frustrated that I didn’t have as many options as my skinny friends. I’ve been in an entire mall full of stores and found only two stores that catered to my body.

So, what’s a girl to do?

Well, recently I’ve started shopping for plus size clothes… in the skinny section.

plus size in the skinny section express

Yup, you heard me! I’m not one of those size 12/14 girls who is “on the cusp” of plus. I’m a big girl with breasts, hips and a belly… and I’m finding clothes that fit in the skinny section. Want to learn how? Want to watch a video of me shopping in Express? Click the “next” button.

My New Favorite Skirt

Alright, my lovelies… I’ve been taking you inside the dressing room every weekend and you’ve been helping me choose items and telling me what to leave behind. So, today I’m sharing how a few of those trips came together for outfits.

We’ve got a sweater from my plus size shopping at Torrid video and a skirt from my plus size shopping at Charlotte Russe, video (below).

I wore this outfit for a day full of meetings (hence the comfy flats), but this is definitely a contender for Easter, perhaps with a pink bag and pink shoes. How would you style this look?

Black White Stripes Plus Size

Top: Torrid | Belt: Lane Bryant | Skirt: Charlotte Russe Plus (similar) | Shoes: Lane Bryant

This is my new favorite skirt because of the length and the material. The skirt is long enough to be formal, casual or anything in between depending on how I style it. and the scuba fabric gives it a nice stiff extreme a-line and I think that’s really cute!

I actually tried on this skirt in two different prints, check it out in this dressing room video!

So now that you’ve seen the skirt in the dressing room and how I rocked it “in real life”, let me know what you think. How would you style this skirt?

How to Create a Boudoir Photo Shoot | Tips for Every Body

1.) Find Lingerie that makes You Feel Beautiful

Tip #6 don’t take yourself too seriously How to Create a Boudoir Photo shoot, right now on the blog (link in bio)

The most exciting part of this shoot for me was ordering my Lingerie! I chose to customize a three piece set from Impish Lee, a woman owned start-up based in Brooklyn. I was able to go online and customize the lace for my skin tone, the fabrics and prints and even the little embellishments. They make beautiful items for women of all sizes (girls, you’re in for a treat, I’ve got a gift card up for grabs down below!)

I wore a high waist panty with this lace skirt, but you can pair it with whatever you want to (or not!)

Event Recap: Speaking at Refinery29 Celebrating Kelsey Miller’s Book, “Big Girl”

It’s pretty exciting to watch my internet friends do amazing things.

It’s even more exciting when they ask me to be a part of it.

Kelsey Miller has just released a book called, “Big Girl: How I Gave Up Dieting and Got a Life” and I am so incredibly proud of her. I’ve read the book and it is so open and honest… I feel like there’s a little piece of all of us inside of her storytelling.

If you don’t know Kelsey, she’s the creator of the Anti-Diet project on Refinery29. She’s been super supportive of me in countless ways, so when she asked if I would be a speaker on a body image panel during her book launch, I immediately said yes.

Check out my video recap below and order “Big Girl” here

Model or Me: Eloquii Gown

This Fall, I brought “Plus Size Model or Me?” to the blog with this post.

Some of you asked: “Why make it a competition?”, “Why ask us to choose?”, “Is this even body positive?”

Here’s my answer:

As plus size women, many of us automatically think our bodies are a hindrance to wearing certain items. Big girls often feel they aren’t even in the same “league” as a smaller girl. I do think there’s some body positive affirmation that comes when you can root for the fat chick. I think it’s body positive to see that items can look just as good on a big girl with lumps as it does on a model with a perfect figure. So, these posts are just my way of leveling the playing field a bit and opening our eyes that we can wear whatever we want. The main point is comparison and seeing that different can be good, not competition.

Hope that makes sense… now, on to today’s post!

I’m going to show you an item on a model, I’m going to explain how I made my purchase (what size I chose, color, width, etc.), then I’ll show the item on me and you can decide if you like it on the model… or on me.

Eloquii Long Sleeve Petal Neckline Gown

www.plussizeprincess.com model or me CeCe Olisa Eloquii Gown

Here’s the dress on the model.

The only long dresses I own are summer maxi’s, so I was really excited about this gown. It seemed simple enough to wear for any occasion where I want to step things up and I knew with the right accessories this dress could be super glam.

There is a long sleeved version of the dress here, but I chose the short sleeve version

  • so that I could pull it out during any warmer months too.
  • Because the long sleeved, floor length dress looked like I was trying to cover up my body
  • I think if you’re wearing a floor length gown, you should show a little skin 😉

Normally, I order maxi dresses a size larger to get some extra length, but with this one I ordered the dress in my normal dress size 18, because I didn’t want it to be baggy at all, that would kill the fun of this curve hugging dress. I just crossed my fingers that it would be long enough (I’m 5’10).

Here’s the dress on me.

The dress was more than long enough (yay!). The only thing that’s a little awkward is how the fabric clings in the tummy area, but that’s nothing a little shapewear can’t fix. Styling the dress was super easy. I found a fur stole at the goodwill (yessss!) and the clutch and shoe combo is something I’ll probably use with other Little Black Dresses, its unexpected and fun.
