Healthy, Yummy NYC Brunch at Bluestone Lane

Fun fact about me, Brunch is my favorite meal!

I love sleeping in but still getting breakfast food, I love chatting with friends into the late afternoon and I really love it when a brunch meal is outside or has extra sunny views.

The only drawback with brunch is that when you’re trying to live a healthy lifestyle, sometimes mimosas, french toast and bacon aren’t the best choices.

On the other hand, staying home to eat oatmeal every weekend isn’t always super appealing either.

I asked you all on my instagram if you were interested in healthy brunch options in NYC and lots of you said YES! So, as I find great reastaurants, I’ll send them your way. If you don’t live in NYC, use these meals as inspiration to cook your own yummy healthy brunches at home.

Healty Yummy NYC Brunch

Today’s Healthy brunch suggestions is Bluestone Lane in New York City (there’s also a location in Philadelphia!).

They have a few locations in Manhattan, I walked over to the one in the west village.

The first thing I ordered was an Almond Milk Latte, oh my goodness… it was as yummy as it was adorable!

The Menu

The brunch menu was pretty exciting to me, lots of options and variety. The waiter (with his adorable Australian accent) said some of the locations in NYC have an even more extensive menu than the Greenwich street location, but for me a few really great choices are good enough. We decided to share avocado smash and quinoa porridge. It was an awesome mix of savory/sweet.

West Village Stroll

Are pants a requirement at brunch? Nope!
The west village bluestone lane location is perfect for a west village stroll, you’re pretty close to Washington Square park, Christopher street and Union Square, so have a nice brunch and then get lost in the city while getting your activity and steps in for the day.

Plus Size Fashion: T-Shirts & Vintage Style Skirts

Last week my relaxed vibe had me in “Plus Size Casual Stripes & Solids“. These week I’m rocking Plus Size Vintage Skirts and T-Shirts.

I love plus size vintage style skirts for a few reasons. They’re usually in a fun/different print that makes them a great statement piece. Also they’re long enough for me to wear a light pair of shape wear with shorts, to avoid a chub rub situation. I got both of these skirts from for under $15 in the clearance section (link below). Tip: they didn’t have my size, but since the skirts were so cheap I ordered a bigger size and tailored them down.

My Favorite Places to Swim Laps in New York City + Plus Size Bathing Suits | Fitness

Hi CeCe,

I noticed that you’ve done a few posts here and pics on instagram with you swimming. Would you be interested in writing about pools in NYC?

Hey Brandi,

Sure! I love swimming and I highly recommend it as a form of exercise for Plus Size Princesses because its an intense workout that is low impact. Meaning, you’ll burn a lot of calories without pounding your knees and other joints.

Here are my favorite places to swim laps in NYC, there’s something for every budget, from Free to Fancy! (Prices are based on what I paid, call for current rates).

The NYC pools have designated lap swims in the summer at their pools. There are NYC public pools in every neighborhood, so you don’t have to travel far. The lap swim program begins July 7 – August 29, Monday through Friday

Early Bird – 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. (July and August)
Night Owl – 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. (July) and 8:15 p.m. (August)

Things I love: When I lived in Harlem, my favorite pool was in Marcus Garvey park. It was nice to swim outdoors and in a long pool so I could work on my endurance.

Things I hate: The public pools are open during the day to (mostly) kids who are out of school and trying to cool off. So, jumping into a pool that’s been full of kids all day wasn’t my favorite. There were lost braids in the pool, candy wrappers and the water wasn’t as clear as I’d prefer– but its free, so… *shrugs*

Bally Sports Club

Not to be confused with Bally Total Fitness, in NYC on 32nd and 50th street, there are upgraded Bally’s. These locations have pools. If you join a Bally Sports club you can go to a total fitness, but it doesn’t work the other way around, so be mindful of where you join.

The pools aren’t lap pools by any means, but they get the job done and there’s a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room (all co-ed).

Things I love: The location was easy for me when I worked in midtown and the water was clearer than the free pools

Things I hate: The pool is next to a big window where people can watch from the gym floor. I don’t like people seeing me half naked when they’re fully clothed on a treadmill, that’s just not fair… *shrugs*

New York Sports Club

The NYSC on 91/3rd and 49/Broadway both have pools. The pools are on the short side, but they’re clean, well managed and there isn’t too much of a wait. The 49th and Bway location has a skylight which gives an outdoor feel and they take reservations.

Things I love: The steam room is located in the locker room, so its women only.

Things I hate: The pool on 49th is shared with a hotel, so sometimes tourists will watch you swim laps… awk.

Let me start by saying the YMCA’s in NYC are more fancy than what I remember from my California childhood. These gyms are NICE! They have indoor lap pools, steam rooms, sauna’s as well as other gym classes. During the summer you can get a full summer membership to any YMCA for $200 flat and its a great way to try out if you like the facilities or not.

Things I love: They have a “calm waters” schedule that tells you when the most lanes will be open.

Things I hate: The shower heads are really harsh– it’s the one thing that does remind me of my childhood YMCA camp summers. Also, I saw a woman with her shower curtain open, shaving her bikini area while holding a conversation with another woman across the locker room, I thought that was kinda much, but… *shrugs*

Plus Size Yoga Tips + Curvy Yoga Party Video

One of the things Keisa, our Yoga instructor said during the Curvy Yoga Party was that “everyone needs some type of modification”. It was nice to hear that because, sometimes in yoga classes its easy to feel like being plus size is keeping me from being able to hit certain poses, so it was good to be reminded that all bodies are different and that’s okay! Asking for modifications is something that people of all sizes need to do, so I’m going to try and be less shy about things like that.

We also discussed Yoga Blocks and how they can be used to extend your stretches and poses to make you more flexible. If your hands don’t touch the ground use Yoga Blocks in any position to “bring the ground to your hands”!

Thank you to everyone who came out for Yoga & Curvy Conversations on Saturday!

A special thank you to all of the #PSPfit girls who bought/donated tickets to girls who couldn’t afford the class… you ladies never cease to amaze me with your open and generous spirits.

I love throwing events and meeting you girls and it was so exciting to watch PSP’s taking their very first yoga class, learning modifications for our bodies and of course having our “Curvy Conversations” at the end was icing on the cake.

Dating & Van Gogh Vodka with Perez Hilton & Patti Stanger

One of the first lessons I learned when moving to NYC is that you don’t gush over celebs when you see them, so I kept my composure when I walked into Toshi’s livingroom and saw Perez Hilton and Patti from Millionaire Matchmaker. Dating is one of my favorite subjects and I loved sitting back and listening to them dish about dating and go over the results of the Singles in America study. Some interesting things I learned from the event are:

1.) Women like to text during the day/at work, men don’t

2.) The issues/red flags you see by date three will not go away as the relationship progresses

3.) Men tend to imagine a future with their date faster than women d0

Now that I have a proper camera, I can take you guys with me to events like this:

I think the vodka cocktails definitely freed people up to ask questions and air their dating dirty laundry which made for a hilarious afternoon. The giftbags from this event included bottles of Van Gogh Vodka and a cocktail recipe book. I’m not going to lie, I tested alllllll the cocktails. Now that I have a couple of bottles at home, the recipe I’ll probably try tonight is the “My Honey Valentine”

My Honey Valentine

1-1/2 oz. Van Gogh Pomegranate Vodka

3/4 oz. pomegranate juice

1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice

1/4 oz. honey syrup (equal parts honey and hot water stirred until the honey dissolves)

Shake ingredients very well with ice and strain into martini glass or over ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Dressing Room Confidential: Plus Size Shopping at MACYS

Last weekend I went to Macy’s to see if they had anything on the 7th floor where the plus sizes live.

I tried on some Michael Kors and Calvin Klein pieces along with some more affordable items from INC and American Rag (who is definitely bringing back a 1990’s trend) If you see me sporting big sunflowers and carrying a baby backpack, you’ll know why…

Shopping Tip: If you go shopping at the Macy’s on 34th street, hit up the visitors center and show your out of state/out of country ID. They’ll give you a 15% off coupon that’s good for three days!

The piece I loved the most was over $300 which is not in my budget right now, but there were a few other items that were cool… let me know which pieces you like?

Plus Size Holiday Dress with @GwynnieBee! #PSPstyle

I just moved into my a new apartment and I’m not going to lie, I still have unpacked boxes. Most of my unpacked boxes have my fancy clothes in them and I really don’t feel like digging them out (don’t judge!).

My subscription to GwynnieBee is coming in handy because instead of digging out dresses when I have events, I order pretty pieces and they’re delivered to my door ready to wear.

Gwynnie Bee is like Netflix for +size clothing, they send you the dresses you choose from their online closet and when you’re done wearing them you send the clothes back and get more clothes! Want a free 30 day membership? Click here!

Oh, and my new apartment has rooftop access… I’m so excited!
