When I first moved away for college, I had this eclectic mix of luggage that I took from my parents basement. Plain boring black suitcases in different sizes. I took little swatches of pink sequined fabric from an old prom dress and tied them on the handles of each bag so that when they came down the luggage carousel at the airport I’d know which plain boring black suitcase was mine.
For years as I’d shuttle back and forth from New York City to California, I’d grab one of the boring black bags and go.
Fast forward to today and I’m working really hard at “adulting”. For me adulting isn’t always about big moves like having babies or buying a house. Sometimes it’s about the little ways we upgrade our lives, like going to the doctor for an annual physical, having nice sheets or cooking at home more than we order in.
Finding cute luggage that’s also affordable is a great little way to upgrade your life, because who wants to travel around with boring black luggage from their parents basement?
I absolutely adore Diane Von Fursenberg luggage. My first grown up luggage set was DVF and it lasted me a long time. So I definitely feel comfortable investing in her luggage pieces. Right now, I’m carrying the DVF three piece Saluti set. Depending on where I’m going I’ll bring one or two of the suitcases.
I’m currently in New Orleans for five days and I brought the middle size bag with me along with my Louis Vuitton NeverFull and it was just the right amount of luggage for me.
During my week long trip to Cuba, I carried the large and small suitcases along with a backpack. When I went on my 7 night Cruise to the Bahamas I did the same combination, along with my Louis Vuitton Speedy 35.
I was able to carry the tiny bag for a 2 day weekend trip, but as a plus size girl with clothes that are just… bigger it was definitely a tight fit. I’m sure during the summer when I’m just packing sun dresses, it will be easier. But packing jeans and multiple sweaters was a bit of a struggle. Click Here for details on my outfit.
