You can throw a stick and find a boyfriend, but what about when we want something more?
One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2018 is to take note of the good things in my life while they’re happening. If you haven’t figured this out about me already, I’m very driven and goal oriented. This is a good thing, but sometimes I’m so focused on the future that I don’t take in the amazing things happening in the present until much later.
This year I want to look back on each day, week and month and take moments for joy and gratitude.
That being said, I’d like to share with you 5 Amazing things that happened in the month of January.
I’m obsessed with creating outfits that are cute and comfortable. Of course, I’m always going to be stylish but figuring out how to do it on days when I want to dress down is what today’s post it all about.
I realized that with the right collection of cute sneakers, jeans that fit like a glove and layering pieces I could make adorable casual outfits that were far from sloppy!
Want to see them?
I’m beyond excited to partner with LOFT on Feb 6 in NYC for a panel discussion about fashion and cultivating confidence to celebrate the launch of LOFT Plus (!!!)
Don’t live in NYC? No worries, Loft is taking the Pop-Up Party to a few cities around the country and I’m coming along! I’ll be in the following cities:
Last fall a bunch of stuff happened and I did a horrible job of keeping you updated. To make a long story short, I got incredibly sick at the end of September and spent almost a month in the hospital.
It was awful.
Because of everything that happened and the intense recovery that I’ve been doing, I didn’t have the energy to write blog posts but I did upload regular videos on my YouTube channel.
Are you subscribed? Click Here to join the party!
Anyway, I did an in depth YouTube life update video where I explained exactly what happened that landed me in the hospital for three weeks (you can watch that video here).
I also announced on my YouTube channel that I’m going to be bi-coastal in 2018.
It’s going to be awesome!
I’m so excited to be splitting my time between New York and California. I’m happy to spend more time around my family and sunshine. I’m happy to have missed the bomb cyclone. I’m happy that through God’s grace, hard work and your support I can afford to manage a life on two coasts.
Because I’m keeping my New York apartment, I’m not bringing any furniture with me to California which means I get to start over completely from scratch.
There’s something so inspiring about a blank page… no baggage, just a clean slate.
I look at my new California apartment and I see nothing but possibilities– and in a lot of ways I’m looking at my life in the same way. I’m in a place where I can make big moves, take risks and see what happens. It’s scary and amazing at the same time.
That being said, I thought I should give you a tour of my new apartment while it’s empty and then we can work on decorating it together, sound good?
Take a look at my empty apartment tour and then leave a comment letting me know where you get home decor inspiration.
When we pulled up to Great Maple, there was a long line of people perched in the parking lot waiting patiently for their names to be called. I was hungry, but usually a line means the food is worth it.
It was New Years Day and I was enjoying a gorgeous sunny day in Southern California instead of the bomb cyclone back in New York City, so I was not going to complain about a long wait for brunch.
If you follow my instagram stories, you may have seen me being a *tiny* bit petty about my sunny New Years towards Chastity after she called me from her frozen tundra in Atlanta… I swear I tried to leave my petty in 2017, but it didn’t work. Pray for me, ya’ll!
Anyway, we added our names to the list for a table and passed the time chatting and sipping on complimentary coffee provided by the restaurant. The time passed quickly and soon we were seated for brunch.
Great Maple was a pleasant surprise– we ordered a few different items and everything was amazing.
Everyone started with cocktails, but I had to drive back to Los Angeles after brunch so I decided to try the Lavender Latte. First of all, the Lavender Latte is covered in edible glitter which was enough of a reason for me to order it. Secondly, the combination of Lavender and coffee was something I’d never had before and I loved it– they made mine with Almond milk.

Great Maple also does a lovely lavender lemonade, super refreshing!
I had the Hardwood Smoked Bacon Scramble Melt: Smoked Bacon, California Avocado, Fresh Basil, Tomato & Mozzarella Cheese made with Free Range Eggs, a Cheese Melted Crown and a Scallion Potato Cake on the side.
My suggestion would be to order a savory breakfast dish and then share the decadent french toast with the table for dessert.
They have an adorable outdoor patio (eating al fresco is my favorite), so next time I’ll try to snag a seat outside to take full advantage of the San Diego sunshine.
Was brunch at Great Maple worth the wait? Absolutely!
Brunch at Great Maple was the perfect way to kick off 2018.
Tip: Great Maple doesn’t have a large parking lot but on weekends (and holidays) you can park in the DMV parking lot behind the restaurant.
The biggest surprise from brunch was how much you guys loved this outfit. When I posted this photo on my instagram and my DMs were flooded with requests for the details.
This top is technically a sweatshirt so it’s super comfortable and the bows keep the cold shoulder style in place. These distressed jeans are perfect if you carry weight in the middle like me. I’ve linked everything below!

Happy 2018, my loves!
I took some extended time off after the holidays but now I am back into the swing of things!
Some of you may have noticed this about me, but I’m a planner. In my personal life and in my work life, mapping things out is a big part of how my brain works. I love to take my visions and ideas and bring them to life.
I’ve been blessed to do what I love as my full time job. I get to blog, do youtube and run theCURVYcon for a living. In order to juggle everything, I really have to stay organized.
For the past three years I’ve been using the passion planner– it was really helpful when I was transitioning from my corporate job into being a full time blogger and launching theCURVYcon. But this year I’m trying a different planner, it’s called The Happy Planner.
Today I’m sharing two videos with you, the first video is a haul of my planner and all of the accessories I got to customize it. The second video is a peek inside my January planner, schedule and how I lay it out.
Let’s jump in!
I have some very specific financial goals in 2018, so a budget planner was perfect for me. I’m always working on my fitness which made the fitness expansion pack a no brainer as well.
Here’s a list of what I ordered:

My homegirl, Amanda Allison had the brilliant idea to throw a planner party for a few of her friends. We all got together to organize and set up our planners and chat about our goals for 2018. I was so awesome!
Okay, keep watching to check out the party and flip through my planner for this month…
Are you a “planner girl”? What tips do you have for me?
Okay, I’ve got a serious question for you—why do you work out?
I’ll admit to you that my workout sessions were not always positive or productive, because I was fighting against my body.
I treated each minute on the treadmill or in a dance class as a punishment for being plus size.
My workouts weren’t joyful.
A few things about my body… I’m tall (5’10) and my shape is what I like to call an “apple glass” somewhere between an hour glass and an apple shape. I definitely have curves but I also carry a lot of weight in my tummy area.
So when I’m shopping for jeans there are a lot of things that have to be perfect.
I’m at that interesting age where acne is still a thing, but I know wrinkles and aging are around the corner.
When it comes to my skincare, I have to address both.
