I was doing a quick run to the grocery store which meant I didn’t even bother getting dressed. I just tucked my pajama pants into my Uggs and threw on my wide collar black wool coat which still had a big bejeweled brooch on it from the night before.
As I stood in the dairy aisle deciding if I should try a new brand of Soy Milk, a very tall man with curly salt and pepper colored hair pushed his cart in between the refrigerator and me.
“That brooch is so big, you might need a bodyguard,” he said.
I smiled politely.
“You know, I am a bodyguard… in case you need one,” he winked.
I stared at him blankly.
“One other thing,” he said as he leaned in closer. “If anyone tells you you’re overweight, let me know and I’ll break their legs!”
*deep sigh*
I’m thinking of keeping copies of this in my purse to pass out when necessary.
aww!
that was so sweet.
i love receiving random pleasantries from strangers;
it seems more heartfelt.
Oh mercy.
Boys.
Doesn't that just do your heart good. Getting random compliments!! Love it!!!
You know dude really thought he had some game, right? That brooch line is classic. It probably is FA correct to say it, but I would have been flattered by the don't let anybody say you're fat line although I don't want strangers promising to do bodily harm on my behalf.
Dunno, I say you should have punched him for calling you fat.
He could have commented on a bunch of other things about you other than that.
Lets be real.
I'm just saying it was probably said as more of a confidence booster since you were walking around the supermarket in PJ's and Uggs.
Tsk…Tsk…Tsk
What??!him and ..lol i dont understand why him and others have to go there…? why does the compliment have to come w/a disclaimer..
that kinda classifies as a weird pleasantry. One with all the best intentions, but weird nonetheless
Just goes to show that you are beautiful to people. Keep smiling and wear that brooch more often!!
I love that your comments are a mixed bag of – "that's so sweet" and – "say what?" This is the kind of thing I'd do a study on. How does attitude and perception affect life/situations/choices. I think it's so interesting.
*sigh* He should've stopped at "I am a body guard…." If you'd have wanted to, you could have said, "Well, I'll keep that in mind in case my body needs guarding." But he left no chance for a response with that last bit. Awful. I can only hope you kicked him in the balls with your Uggs. At least in your mind.
I'm sure i'll get attacked for this, but this irks the crap out of me!!! LOL. Why do men feel the need to point out our weight when "hitting on" or "flirting with" us? Its not a turn on, and it ends up feeling like… that's all they see. I get it, i'm overweight, or plus sized, or big and beautiful, pleasantly plump…. however you choose to say it… but its not something i need you to bring up to get my attention. It would be like a guy pointing out that i have 2 legs… its not that its shameful, it is that it makes me feel like a target… *shrugs* i dunno… i'm weird, lol.
Flattering, but I'd also be reaching for my can of mace just as a caution. Though if he was cute, I might have asked for his number.. you know.. just in case my body did need some guarding. 🙂
LOL, I've never had a guy point out my weight when flirting with me . . . . he may however point out my boobs. Well, ya cant miss'em.
Ugggh. This reminds me of the time when a drunk guy told me "You're the most beautiful big girl I have ever seen in my life". Then, got mad that I would not give him my number. :::sigh:::
I don't think his comment was sweet at all. Why do people feel the need to remind you that you're overweight. In my opinion, that was a bad pick up line.
First, I can't believe you went out in your pjs.
Second, wow, creepy guy.
Third, I wanna see the brooch!
-sigh- More than once I’ve had a random guy pass me on the street and say “no matter what anyone says, you’re beautiful.” That is not a compliment! Love your blog. It’s so great to learn I’m not the only one with these experiences.
