NYC Artist Date: Audible Theater

After experiencing the Virgil Abloh “Figures of Speech” exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, I am more committed than ever to my weekly Artist Dates. As a creative, living in New York City I am blessed to have access to an abundance of experiences for my Artist Dates and I do my best not to take that for granted. In my experience, scheduling an artist date on my calendar with a time and date makes it easier to keep the appointment. With that in mind, I accepted an invitation to see the world premiere of Lucy, written and directed by BAFTA Award nominee Erica Schmidt at the Audible Theater.

What is an Artist Date?

According to Julia Cameron, The Artist Date is a once-weekly, festive, solo expedition to explore something that interests you. The Artist Date need not be overtly “artistic” — think mischief more than mastery. Artist Dates fire up the imagination. They spark whimsy. They encourage play. Since art is about the play of ideas, they feed our creative work by replenishing our inner well of images and inspiration. When choosing an Artist Date, it is good to ask yourself, “what sounds fun?” — and then allow yourself to try it.

Where is The Audible Theater in New York City?

The Audible Theater is at the Minetta Lane Theatre (18 Minetta Lane, between MacDougal & 6th Avenue – one block south of W. 3rd Street). This space has become Audible’s creative home for live performances in New York over the last five years. I’ve been in this neighborhood so many times and I never noticed the charming little theater right off of 6th avenue.

What is The Audible Theater Play LUCY About?

Ashling is every busy parent’s dream-a professional nanny with warmth, experience, and a sunny attitude. But from the moment Mary hires her to look after her young daughter and infant son, things start feeling just a little…off. Is Ashling an unstable, gaslighting troublemaker, or are Mary’s stressful work schedule and lack of sleep playing games with her own sanity? At once hilarious and harrowing, Erica Schmidt’s Lucy explores the wild range of emotions that new parents go through, and asks if we can truly trust others to have our children’s best interests at heart.

I’m super focused on expanding my body care line. This week, I released the Cocoa by CeCe mini hand facial kit (thank you to everyone who has placed an order!) I’m so happy that the kit is selling well and I’m excited to read your reviews. Of course, getting a beauty product out to market means I’ve had my business hat on all week. Attending LUCY and staying for a talkback with the actors, director and producer gave me a chance to be inspired by their creative process and storytelling and that felt really good.

Talk Soon Dolls,

CeCe
