CeCe & Jonathon Singing in LA

One of the cool things about not being anonymous anymore is that I can share ALL the aspects of my NYC life with you guys. If you’ve read TBGB for a while, you’ve heard me mention singing performances here and there. Music is a super important part of my life and a lot of my friends I know from performing. When I was in Los Angeles last week, I spent a few days with my good friend Jonathon Grant (aka @YourCoverBoy). Jonathon and I met studying Musical Theater in NYC. Now he’s doing well on the west coast acting and doing acousitc covers. Get two singers together for a few days and something creative is bound to happen… we started…

Plus Size Travel, Plus Size Swimsuits & Vacay Essentials

Greetings from Los Angeles! So, I got on the plane in NYC and was able to click the seat belt closed with no extender! Then just as I was applauding myself for my weight loss acomplishments, I changed flights in Chicago and the seatbelt was *this* close to fitting, but it wouldn’t and I had to ask the flight attendant for an extender afterall (womp womp!). Goes to show, that its not always us… sometimes its the plane, so we shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves when we have to do the oh so embarrassing extender request. I’m in my home state for a friends wedding. I’m not in the wedding and Robert had to stay behind for a family…

Plus Size Travel: San Francisco on a Budget (& solo)!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Every time I take a trip I try to do something adventurous. I’ve gone parasailing in miami, snorkeled with seals in La Jolla and each time that I do something like that I find that I conquer a fear of mine in some way. This year, when I went home for Christmas, I decided to conquer a fear that I’ve had forever– going places by myself. Its hard for me to have a cup of coffee on my own without a book or my laptop in front of me. So when I decided to take a trip to San Francisco on my own… I was beyond nervous. The first thing I had to do was make sure…

Plus Size Travel: Flying in Rachel Pally

I swear, traveling as a Plus Size Princess is an art. There are so many opportunities for things to go awry; seatbelts not fitting… the person in front of you insisting on leaning back into your lap… and of course, the battle for the arm rest. Something that I’ve noticed is that what I wear can drastically improve the quality of my trip. Of course, when I fly home I try to wear things that will transition easily from frosty NYC weather to Sunny California temps, but there’s another reason I’m particular about what I wear when I fly. It may sound random, but soft flowing fabrics make fitting into tight spaces sooo much easier in comparison to denim and/or bulky…

Plus Size Travel: Snorkeling in La Jolla Cove

We arrived at La Jolla Cove 15 minutes early. Although I was completely stoked about snorkeling, there was one thing that had me nervous. The website said Providing a mask, snorkel, fins, and a 7-millimeter wetsuit, the water-recreation emporium outfits squadrons of snorkelers for guided sightseeing at La Jolla Cove Underwater Park. A 7 millimeter wetsuit? *sigh* I wasn’t sure that they would have a suit that fit me, but I really wanted to go. I called the company and expressed my concerns. They said they had suits up to a XXL but that meant nothing to me, I had a feeling that XXL would be for a well built man not a Plus Size Princess. But the company also…

Plus Size Swimsuits 2011 (Featuring Extended Sizes!)

I’m going on vacation this week, so I started my swimsuit search a little early. With so many new swim lines coming out, Plus Size Princesses have a lot of options (especially if money isn’t an issue). But if you’re on a budget like me, cute suits at reasonable prices are the way to go and they’re not hard to find. Getting cute cover-ups from sites like ABC Distributing are also a way to go, to wear over your swimsuit. I’m really trying to get away from the skirted swimsuits like the one I picked up last year for my Miami trip. I know they’re supposed to flatter/hide a bigger figure, but I’m over it. If I’m going to embrace…

California BBW Clubs

Walking into my first BBW Party in Los Angeles was like walking into a high school dance. Club Bounce was located in the ballroom of a budget hotel. There were three large women collecting tickets behind a folding table. Once we paid our cover, our names were immediately dropped into a raffle bowl for prizes that would be announced later that night. I’ve never seen these things at mainstream clubs, but BBW clubs seem to think we come out for the chance at a free digital camera (*shrugs*). Vanessa, my friend who works for Kiyonna (maybe some of you have seen her videos?) looked fabulous in a black dress with rouching up the front and funky boots and I was…

Plus Size Travel: Miami Beach Resort & Spa, Life’s Good.

As I mentioned before, my Miami trip was my first “grown up” vacay. Instead of travelling with family, I was meeting up with girlfriends and I was pretty stoked. (It almost felt like my first time at sleep-away camp as a child.) I was in the LaGuardia Airport waiting for my flight when I passed a sign that simply said, “Life’s Good”. Sometimes I get so focused on the things that I’m not: I’m not skinny enough, I’m not making enough money, I’m not in a relationship… So, I decided in the moment that “Life’s Good” would be a personal mantra for me during my trip. I needed to remind myself that, in spite of all the things that I’ve…

Plus Size Travel: Miami Beach Parasail!

On my last post I said I “might” be going parasailing. That “might” wasn’t because I was unsure of the event taking place, the “might” was because I wasn’t sure if my size would get in the way of my parasailing experience. Parasailing is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, and I figured Miami would be the best place to try it out. I can be a little anxious about things and I started having visions of me standing on the beach being told that I was too big to be flown over the ocean. Even though I did lots of research to make sure my weight wouldn’t be an issue, I still had nagging thoughts that it…
