Putting Insecurities in the Back Seat…

Remember when I started this blog and I was anonymous? So many of you knew every detail of my life and didn’t know what I looked like. I even had a twitter troll accuse me of not really being plus size because I didn’t show photos. A few bloggers had to vouch for me by tweeting that they had met me and I was indeed a plus size woman. Many people found it odd that I didn’t post my photos, but being anonymous was a huge security blanket knitted out of fear. I felt like I could never openly discuss my weight AND have my picture attached to my inner most thoughts and insecurities. But over time something interesting happened.…

Dating & Van Gogh Vodka with Perez Hilton & Patti Stanger

One of the first lessons I learned when moving to NYC is that you don’t gush over celebs when you see them, so I kept my composure when I walked into Toshi’s livingroom and saw Perez Hilton and Patti from Millionaire Matchmaker. Dating is one of my favorite subjects and I loved sitting back and listening to them dish about dating and go over the results of the Singles in America study. Some interesting things I learned from the event are: 1.) Women like to text during the day/at work, men don’t 2.) The issues/red flags you see by date three will not go away as the relationship progresses 3.) Men tend to imagine a future with their date faster…

Remembering My Dreams…

Langston Hughes asked: What happens to a dream deferred? in his poem, Harlem… My deferred dream is performing and over the past month, I’ve been reminded of it in some fun ways. I was asked to be in a workshop of a new musical at NYU and I sang in a charity Christmas concert on the Lower East Side. It felt amazing to do what I love… This is me backstage at the charity concert. You can rent this dress for free with your complimentary 30 day Gwynnie Bee membership I’ve always been a dreamer… if I imagine something in my head, I don’t mind working hard to make it happen even if it seems crazy (#PSPfit is a good example…

How to Pack (Plus Size) for the Caribbean! Feat. @TropTrav & @swimsuits4all

Packing for a Caribbean vacation can be a daunting task for someone who is navigating her body confidence like I am. I’ll never be the girl who can throw a few string bikinis and a coverup into her suitcase and dash off to the beach. Feeling comfortable and confident on the beach takes work on my end, but I’ll let you in on my Beach/Caribbean packing tip: Don’t pack anything new. I packed my suitcase with summer favorites that I knew I felt good in. I grabbed the shorts that I knew wouldn’t make chub rub an issue, the dresses that I could dress up/down and the swimsuit that I’d had a huge confidence epiphany in. Below is a look…

I’m Speaking (twice!) at #BlogHer13 in Chicago

Its crazy to think that I started TheBigGirlBlog as a hobby to keep me sane while I auditioned for plays in NYC… or that I wrote it anonymously for years. Although I feel like I know so many of you via the comments section, twitter, facebook and emails it wasn’t till this moment at the BlogHer 2012 fashion show that anyone knew what I looked like: While some of my friends are playing Candy Crush and sites like Http:/GalaBingo.com, who knew that my online hobby could bring me into such an amazing space with amazing women doing amazing things. I am so thankful to the BlogHer community for embracing me and encouraging me to do more, so when they asked if I…

Surfing the Confidence Wave (Confidence is… Complicated)

“Just get me from the boobs up,” I instructed as I posed for a photo in the sand. I was spending my day by the water with Meaghan, from LittleLimeDress, Beck, from Manfattan and a few bottles of Teqava (the sparkling tequila cocktail we served at the #NYCurvyCloset Sale). Shooting from the boobs up is my go-to pose for pictures on the beach. It hides my stomach but still lets “The Twins” have their moment. “CeCe, you should really do some full body shots, you look great” Meaghan said. I shook my head, “no” while Beck snapped photos of me. It wasn’t going to happen. Am I happy to frolic around the ocean, jump in the waves and flirt with lifeguards in…

La Vie Zen Spa, NYC: Relaxing & Size Inclusive

There is so much about being a Plus Size Princess that people don’t consider. We always have to think ahead to make sure we’ll be comfortable especially in situations where there are garments provided. When I walked into La Vie Zen spa and saw that they carried robes in sizes all the way up to 4X, my heart soared! I have never been to a spa that didn’t require me to bring my own coverups. This thoughtful touch is just an example of the style of service that La Vie Zen spa provides. June 26th was my birthday and I spent a lovely afternoon at La Vie Zen. After slipping into my comfy robe, sipping on tea and munching on…

Choosing Plus Size Dresses Online (with @Macys & @TorridFashion #PSPstyle)

When it comes to shopping online, sometimes its hard to tell what will look good on you. With shipping fees, I really want to make sure I get it right the first time. I enjoy shopping and trying things on, I’ll put on dresses in different cuts/styles to learn what I like and what I don’t. Overtime I’ve developed a bit of a sixth sense when it comes to looking at an outfit and determining 1.) How it will look on me and 2.) What size I should get. Here are two of my most recent online purchases, below you can see how they look on the model and how they look on me. I’m loving all of the floral…

+Size Picture Tricks & #PSPfit Updates

Sooo… can we talk about taking pictures as a Plus Size Princess for a second? I know a lot of us shy away from the camera, I was never like that (can’t you tell? lol) But there was a time when I would only take “selfies” at an upward angle, from my boobs up, nothing lower. Even when I took photos with friends, I’d have them huddle up around me and I’d get that camera tilted *just* right. That angle made my face look slimmer, showcased The Twins and hid the rest of my body. Do any of you PSPs find yourselves using that angle as a go-to? I had to force myself to stop because I knew it was…
