Curvy Conversations: Plus Size Fashion from LA to NYC!

Usually people email me their questions, but last week I got this inquiry via Twitter. Hi Jennifer, I’m California Girl too (♥) and although I can’t stand the cold, I do love the fashion it inspires. Luckily for us, West Coast style can be easily revamped for the streets of New York City. Lets start from the bottom up: Shoes: New York is a walking city, so you want to make sure you pack stylish kicks that you can walk a mile in. During the fall, I love to wear boots with a flat heel. Of course, a shoe with heels is the sexier choice, but keeping your balance so that you dont fall down in a pile of snow…

A Plus Size Princess at New York Fashion Week

Often in our Curvy Conversations, I’ve talked about being confident and secure at any size. I’ve urged us not to let our “weight make us wait” to live life to the fullest. Thankfully that mentality has more or less been second nature for me, but sometimes I have my days. Sometimes it takes a little extra energy for me to walk into a room of people and not wonder what they’re thinking. Although I can usually quiet that insecure voice in my head… it can be rough. So, when my fashion writer girlfriend asked me to be her “+1” for New York Fashion Week in Bryant Park, I was flattered and excited, but I was also having “one of those…

Fashion Emergency: What Should I Wear to The Superbowl?

Hey Cece, I just started reading your blog recently. I noticed you give advice to us PSP’s and I wanted to ask your advice on this… I am headed to the Super Bowl in less than 2 weeks and I’m the only girl in my family bigger than a size 6…I’m a 16! I want to wear something fun to the Super Bowl (and after parties) without going over the top. Any great outfit ideas for when you know you’re going to be pictures with skinnies?! Thanks girl. Love,B Hey B, First of all, congrats on your Superbowl trip… how fun! I love clothes and fashion but I don’t talk about it too much on TBGB. (I try to leave…

Plus Size Coupon Code from eShakti!

When I was in high school my friends mom was a seamstress. She would make dresses for me and the fit would be perfect. I miss having those custom pieces and I haven’t found anyone who will make custom clothes on my budget… until now. eShakti is a clothing company with a different approach to fashion, they design clothes which are then tailored and/or customized to the exact specifications of each buyer making it possible to change a sleeve, neckline etc. This is really helpful for those of us who have special proportions or curves (i.e. being one size on top and another on the bottom or having a really large bust.) With eShakti, you can get affordable clothes that…

Faith 21 Contest & Promo Code!

Ever since I’ve been on Twitter ( I’ve noticed something… I have some of the cutest readers! I see the profile photos of some of my followers like @minordetail, @vercar and so many others who give PSP’s and Curvy Girls a good name and it makes me happy to know that there are so many of us out there who aren’t afraid to express ourselves through fashion. It looks like Faith21 (The plus size line from Forever 21) is taking notice of that too, because they’re doing a search for The Most Stylish Gal! To enter, just submit a photo of yourself in your most stylish ensemble that includes a Faith 21 item and you could be on your way…

A Big Girl Rant: Denim vs. Chub Rub

Yesterday I attended the funeral of my favorite pair of jeans. I made my way down the steps to the trash cans behind my apartment building with my jeans lifeless in my arms. As I lifted the metal lid and placed the jeans on top of some trash bags I wondered if my neighbors would think I was nuts if I said a few words. My Svobodas were a very special pair of jeans. They came from a family of denim designed specifically for PSP’s (Plus Size Princesses) and this pair did everything that jeans should. Not only did they elongate my legs but they enhanced my, um… assets. My Svobodas and I have been through a lot together; casual…

The (Fat) shoe on the (Skinny) foot….

As most of you know, I am a fashion fanatic. But when I opened my spare room/walk-in closet recently, I knew that my clothing collection had gotten out of control. There were pants in the wrong size, shirts I hadn’t worn in forever and worst of all there was an array of items with the tags still on (because I had never worn them!). My first thought was to bag up the items and take them to the thrift store down the street, but I’m proud of the clothing collection I’ve acquired over the years and I really wanted them to go to a person/place where they would be appreciated. I went to some of my Plus Size Princess (PSP)…

Curvy Conversations: When Weight Makes Us Wait.

This weeks Curvy Conversation comes from an anonymous reader: Hi Cece,I love your blog and your refreshing honesty. You remind me of Carrie from Sex in the City but don’t worry you aren’t anywhere near as neurotic as she was…LOL. I see that you battle the same issues with weight and dating that I have. I have always had a battle of the bulge, but I’ve never been as obese as I am right now. I am currently a size 26 which is down from a size 28. Prior to all of this weight gain, I was never higher than a size 14. I put on all of this weight due to some changes I made in my life some…
