How I Treat My Acne, Oily Skin & Skin Discoloration

“Is this like a Noxema Commercial, or WHAT?!” (please tell me you got that reference lol) Anyway, I went to the dermatologist last week for a consultation on laser hair removal (more on that later!) and she complimented me on having acne free skin… this is the first time I’ve had that happen, like ever. One of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle is that my hair is getting longer, my scalp eczema is pretty much non existent, my skin is clear and my nails are growing strong. You know how we say that beauty comes from within? Well, that’s 100% true. When I’m putting good/clean/healthy foods inside my body, it shows on the outside. Pairing healthy living with products that balance…

Summertime Shine #LuminousSkin

I’m switching up my look and enjoying more skin bearing outfits. Last week I remixed one of my favorite skirts for Saturday lunch with Robert.  I bought this shirt for $6 Here and this skirt for $73 Here I’ve also been trying different moisturizers to make sure I don’t get a “lizard legs” situation. Lizard legs = when your shins get really dry. For me, creamy lotions work well, but when I jump out of the shower, I like to let my skin absorb that water with a with an oil or gel moisturizer. This week I’ve been testing out Jergens Shea Beauty Oil, which is supposed to give skin six times more radiance, sheen and hydration. I like it because its an…

Brazilian Waxing for Plus Size Princesses: Eight tips for Going to Brazil!

Last week, Irina, the woman who does my waxing mentioned that some salons ask plus size girls to pay more for a Brazilian Wax,  because of their size. That really broke my heart, because reputable salons will not charge you a “fat fee”. According to Irina, the rates should be based on the service they provide not the size of the customer. Below is a video and 8 tips for big girls who are looking to “go the Brazil” this summer… lets go! (press play, the video works!) A Brazilian Wax is when you wax everything from the front to the back (Yes, the back!) A big girl should not be charged more for a Brazilian wax. My Aestetician says…

How to Create Fake Bangs with Box Braids | Natural Hair Tutorial

Sooo I’m going to be on the Wendy Williams show tomorrow (5/6/14), I’m nervous, but excited to meet her– details on that below! This post is for Kim who asked me to do a tutorial on making fake bangs with my braids. I have my hair braided with Yaki Pony hair, but this updo is possible for straight hair too if its long enough. Okay, now for the Wendy Williams deets: I purge my closet a lot but there are a few things I’ve just never gotten rid of. Some of them are way out of style and too small but I’ve been wanting to fit into them for so long, I couldn’t let them go. Other clothes are too…

“CeCe, I need Plus Size Hygiene Advice…” #CurvyConvo

Hi CeCe, I need plus size hygiene advice… I’m having trouble staying fresh. -Anonymous Dear Anonymous, I love that you brought this up… we’ve discussed boob sweat and chub rub on TBGB  but I never thought to write about overall cleanliness/hygiene for the Plus Size Princess. I’m sure a lot of us are told to sprinkle a little baby powder here and there, but sometimes that’s not enough. A huge part of staying fresh is combating friction. If you have parts of your body that touch/rub together i.e. back fat, cleavage or even your, um… kangaroo pouch/FUPA those can become hot spots that produce a certain Eau de funk. Lucky for us, there are products that make plus size hygiene a…

Is “you’re so confident!” a Backhanded Compliment?

“I really admire your confidence…” “You are so confident girl, yassss!” “Your confidence is really inspiring….” These are all kind words. Words that some of you have written to me in emails and tweets, words that have kept me going on my “bad days”… most of the time when someone comments on my confidence, its genuine, positive and I love it. But today as we revisit our confidence is… complicated series, I want to talk about reading between the lines of a Confidence Compliment. You see, most of us understand the beauty of loving ourselves at any and every size. We know it’s not an easy task, but we work on it and we lift others up as they do the…

La Vie Zen Spa, NYC: Relaxing & Size Inclusive

There is so much about being a Plus Size Princess that people don’t consider. We always have to think ahead to make sure we’ll be comfortable especially in situations where there are garments provided. When I walked into La Vie Zen spa and saw that they carried robes in sizes all the way up to 4X, my heart soared! I have never been to a spa that didn’t require me to bring my own coverups. This thoughtful touch is just an example of the style of service that La Vie Zen spa provides. June 26th was my birthday and I spent a lovely afternoon at La Vie Zen. After slipping into my comfy robe, sipping on tea and munching on…

The Best Ways to Prevent Thigh Chafing (Chub Rub)

Girls who can just throw on a dress and walk out the door have NO IDEA what its like to be trapped in an inner thigh chafing prison, I mean what’s the point of wearing a flowing sundress if you’re bound up in spanx on underneath so your thighs wont touch? And even if you don’t mind wearing spanx under your dresses, it gets annoying to constantly do the “let me yank the hem of my dress down in case my spanx are showing” dance. Ever since I discovered that I could prevent inner thigh chafing and give myself the freedom to walk around with bare legs, I’ve been obsessed. As with preventing ingrown hairs, I like to test out…

How To Prevent Ingrown Hairs & Shaving Bumps (My PCOS & Brazilian Wax Maintenance)

There I was, minding my own business in the grocery store on 116th street, when a woman approached me. “Excuse me, do you know about TendSkin?” I looked at her with a confused look on my face, which she took as a cue to continue. “TendSkin, it will help with those bumps,” she said with a kind smile and walked away. “Those bumps” were the ingrown hairs that I was battling as a result of managing the hirsutism (excess hair) that comes with having PCOS. As much as I hate that I have to deal with hirsutism, I’m thankful that I don’t have hair growing on my face/cheeks as other PCOS women do, that’s got to be really frustrating. Anyway, I…
