Brazilian Waxing for Plus Size Princesses: Eight tips for Going to Brazil!

Last week, Irina, the woman who does my waxing mentioned that some salons ask plus size girls to pay more for a Brazilian Wax,  because of their size. That really broke my heart, because reputable salons will not charge you a “fat fee”. According to Irina, the rates should be based on the service they provide not the size of the customer.

Below is a video and 8 tips for big girls who are looking to “go the Brazil” this summer… lets go! (press play, the video works!)

https://youtu.be/SipGKqGnXIw

  1. A Brazilian Wax is when you wax everything from the front to the back (Yes, the back!)
  2. A big girl should not be charged more for a Brazilian wax. My Aestetician says that rates are based on the type of work (i.e. legs, bikini line, full brazilian) not the size of the person
  3. Having good chemistry with the person doing your wax makes the awkward/intimate process of waxing so much easier. Don’t be afraid to walk away or ask for someone else. Its your body and your money 😉
  4. I always skip nail salons and go to dedicated waxing salons or spas for my wax. This makes it easier to find someone who makes me more comfortable, if needed
  5. You will have to take your clothes off from the waist down, so I often wear a dress so that I can just take off my chonies (aka underwear) and pull the dress up easily
  6. I also offer to help, when needed. Sometimes, I have to move my chub out of the way and/or hold my tummy taunt. Saying “let me know if you need me to help” in the beginning tells my aesthetician that she wont offend me by asking
  7. Getting a wax can often feel like yoga. Irinia, my wax lady has me in a lot of crazy positions so that she can get to all my “nooks and crannies”, for me this is why good chemistry makes things easier
  8. Always remember, having a brazilian wax can make a girl feel very… *wiggles eyebrows* I always try to make sure I get my waxing done at times when it wont affect my decision making on dates. That’s all I’ll say about that!

  5. SO. MUCH. YES. Seriously, fab advice. I recently started dating someone and have been thinking about “a trip to Brazil” as you call it. 🙂 can’t decide whether to talk to him about it or let it be a surprise. Anyway, thx so much for the video and tips. (And I would definitely like to hear what you do to prevent ingrowns.)

    1. So I’ve been waxing for a couple years – and re: Ingrowns – Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. So I usually leave it 24-48 hours after the wax, then ensure I’m using a gentle on the skin but effective chemical (because I find gritty things irritate the skin) exfoliator in the area. I used “Bliss ingrown hair eliminating” pads for a while, but essentially its a mix of Salicyclic and Glycolic Acid, on a nice sort of terry pad. There’s other stuff in there too- but whatever you use as a toner should do; be that witch hazel or some kind of mild rubbing alcohol and rose water mix. That’s what works for me anyway!

  7. new to your blog…glad I found it. I was #dead at *wiggles eyebrows* LOL!!! I’ve never had waxing done (other than brows) but I’m considering it. Recently had a baby and told my hubby I’m looking forward to an all out glam/spa day in the near future.

  9. I recently found your blog and love it! this is a really interesting topic for me because i stopped going to my waxing lady after she made a few “off the cuff” comments about my weight. You know the type that aren’t outright offensive but you know aren’t good either. I never “loved” getting waxed (I never went full Brazilian. Instead I did a modified that the salon doesn’t even offer anymore :() but I did love the smooth feeling. I’ve been debating going back (to a different place) and looking into sugaring (its apparently better for those that suffer from terrible ingrowns as I do). Anyway, long post to say thank you and I love reading your stuff!

  11. Great tips! I am a big girl and I am an esthetician who waxes people for a living. I love my job! I have literally waxed thousands of women (and men). I can assure you that people are uncomfortable with the situation, regardless of their size. Any experienced waxer will agree that it’s skin, it’s hair and the hair needs to come off. We aren’t looking at your body or your girly bits. Just the hair that needs to go! The most important thing is to find a waxer that clicks with YOU. Ask your friends for referrals, if you don’t have a good experience the first time, keep trying until you do. If you feel like you are being judged, move on! One thing that I would add to your list is to have good hygiene! Please. I don’t think I have to elaborate on that but I assure you that people sometimes forget that one! Also, don’t forget that your feet will be pretty much in the waxers face so don’t wear stinky shoes that day!

Please post an ingrown video! Although I’m thinking a Brazilian might help with that problem?

  14. Love this. I’ve been waiting for over a decade to get my first Brazillian and I’ve scoured the net for something like this. GREAT advice and I’d definitely love to see a video about preventing ingrown hairs. 🙂

  16. This is amazing! And whatever you have to do to make smarter decisions on dates 🙂

I’m not a big fan of brazilians, but can attest to how great it feels when you’re groomed properly and professionally. Can’t believe some charge more for PS girls. What if I was really really little? Would I get a discount? And does being PS mean more hair? So strange.

This is great! Are there suggestions for salons? Not that I’m trying to steal Irina but maybe she’s got a friend just as good. Also, are there any recommendations on how to manage the pain? I have a really low pain threshold, I still tear up when I get my eyebrows threaded, lol don’t judge me.

  26. If you did a post or video or anything else re: ingrown hairs or care for post-waxing, I would have to favorite that page for reference! Any help or recommendations would be fantastic, and thank you for addressing the plus-size waxing. This is something that has caused me (unnecessary) angst for years!

  32. I just got my first wax yesterday and decided to jump into the deep end with the Brazilian wax. This video and post made me feel so comfortable, informed, and ready to just go for it (something I was wanting to do for a while). And it was such a fantastic and freeing experience! Thank you for being daring enough to share and keep it real with us, particularly about such a sensitive subject. And thank you for all the body positivity and confidence you throw out into the world, girl. It’s contagious!

  38. CeCe you are a lifesaver!!! I JUST HAD MY FIRST BRAZILIAN 30 MINUTES AGO!!! Well, I’d try to do it myself before and ended up stuck in the house until my husband came home to help me pull the wax off. But that’s another story…
Anyway, I followed your tips and found a spa on Yelp in my area. It was $70 for a full brazilian, including the back and tweezing. It took all of 20 minutes start to finish, no kidding! My aesthetician’s name was Becca, and she was totally cool and very fast. I did what you said and told her I’d be willing to help and she laughed and said “That’s Great!” I didn’t have to be contortionist (lol), just butterfly legs and the number 4 laying on my side.Yes it hurt like crazy, and I’m not sure which hurt worse – the strips (no hard wax, so I was glad based on your advice) or the tweezing. The front was definitely more painful than the back. But overall it was no nonsense, we cracked a few jokes, and I lost all inhibitions. Oh and I also “trimmed” a little bit before I went.
Thank you sooooo much for repping the plus size princesses with grace and dignity. You are a god-send!

  45. I haven’t done the Brazilian, but have done full bikini and it is the BEST. THING. EVER!! I got into a heated discussion wit a friend about it and she asked why I am doing it for a man. I looked at her laughed one of those guttural laughs that has you choking, coughing and crying at the same time. I told her obviously don’t have a man, but if I did, it definitely wouldn’t be for him since I’m doing it for me. Plus, it inly takes 15 minutes and my waxing girl is awesome!! Anyway getting waxed below the belt is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m always strutting, instead of walking for days afterward.
