3 Minute Plus Size Workout Routine #MakeYourMove

On the days that working out is the last thing I want to do, I’m going to give myself a three minute workout challenge.

Push hard for three minutes and then if I still feel… blah. Fine. But, if after three minutes I’m ready for more? Then off we go!

Winter is when I need something like this the most. It’s so dark and cold here in NYC and my inspiration sometimes drops the minute the sun goes down (at like, 4pm… augh!).

So far my three minute challenge has been working. Last week I was having a “can’t I just catch up on Downton Abbey instead of going for a walk?” moment. So I gave myself the three minute challenge.

I got up, laced up my sneakers and told myself I was going for a three minute walk down the block. 45 minutes later, I was still power walking, my head was clear and my spirits were high.

Temps in NYC dipped, so I decided to try it in the morning. If I could manage a three minute warm up on the way to the track near my apartment then I’d keep going and go jogging.

High Knees

I lift my knees and pumped my arms. Each time I brought my knee higher and pumped my arms faster.

Jump Rope

I pretend to jump rope in different patterns. No rope required.

Leg Lifts

Hands on my waist, I lift each leg out to the side five times then I switch to the other side. Each round I bring my leg up a little higher to challenge my flexibility.

Jogging in Place

Once I started to jog in place, I was so warm, I didn’t want to stop! So, three minutes in I powered up my couch to 5K app and headed to the track for a full workout.

  3. I LOVE this idea – I may not feel like doing an entire workout, but I can make myself do 3 minutes and I’d bet ya dollars to donuts I’d feel better about it after that. I’m going to try this! I love your outfit and just might have to give Kohl’s another shot.

  5. This is a great idea. Soooo many mornings I lack the motivation to even get out of bed, let alone out the door! I’m going to give it a go.
    I find stretching is a good motivator too. If I do some deep stretches to wake myself up, I always feel more inclined to work out. Something about stretching after a long period of time gets the blood pumping and makes me want to keep going.
