How to Get Rid of Dry Skin

I’m a big fan of the colder seasons. With grungy-chic sweaters and cute plaid outfits, festive drinks and dishes, I can’t complain – except when it comes to one thing: dry skin.

There’s no denying the discomfort of dry skin. With the wind and heated interiors working against us, the serious lack of moisture during the cold season brings for some unpleasant symptoms. From small cracks in the skin to fighting the urge to scratch the itchy patches, dry skin is a very common condition that is super frustrating when all we want is dewy, glowing skin all year-round.

The good news? I’m going to share my top tips to help treat dry skin and maintain a hydrated, healthy complexion in even the coldest of months. Take a look at some of my simple, yet effective tricks that you can try right at home to crank your skin’s hydration up big time!

Find the right cleanser for you

The cleanser you’re using in your daily skincare routine is very important. Despite how fabulous the quality of the product may be, your cleanser could actually be doing more harm than good if it’s not the right one for your skin. One common example of this is foaming cleansers. Depending on how sensitive your skin is, I’ve found that foaming cleansers can sometimes strip the skin of its natural oils, leaving your face and body feeling very dehydrated – not fun!

If you think your skin is on the drier or more sensitive side, I recommend trying a milk cleanser – a relatively new formula in the skincare world that is very softening and moisturizing. Regardless of what type of skin you have, always try opting for a natural cleanser that is fragrance-free.

Make time for moisturizing

Timing is everything and that is especially true when it comes to applying lotion to your body. The best time to lotion up is immediately after showering when your skin is still damp, as this helps lock in the moisture. And while this is undeniably the optimal time to lather your body up, it’s definitely not the only time. Make sure you apply lotion after shaving, before you go to bed, and while you’re traveling by plane to keep your skin in check throughout the day and night.

And speaking of moisturizing, essential oil is no stranger to healthy skin. One of my all-time favorites to help with dry skin is tea tree oil. It is gentle enough for all skin types and easy to incorporate into your skincare routine. Simply add a few drops to your usual moisturizer and voila!

The advantages of tea tree oil don’t stop at skin! The tea tree oil benefits for hair are just as impressive, with properties that help nourish roots, combat dandruff, aid hair growth, and more. Use tea tree oil for hair and skin health and reap its powerful benefits in every way possible.
