Fat Girl Gym Fail

I’m no stranger to the gym, but I’m doing this thing where I explore new classes around NYC.

Let. Me. Tell. You!

There is nothing that makes you feel like a beginner faster than a new workout class. No matter what the studio or style of class I have to shake off the gym-timidation gremlins and get to work.

I always say things like “don’t wait on your weight” or “it’s not about ‘I can’t, it’s always ‘How Can I do this?'”

But I realized that you aren’t always around when I make those decisions in my own life. So, I got a little giddy when I found this random footage on my YouTube vlogging camera.

I’d had a long day and decided that I’d take a new class. Five minutes in, I felt like I was in over my head. I wanted to quit, I was over it and the moves they were doing with the TRX bands were totally different than what I was used to.

Basically, I wasn’t having it.

Then my moment of truth came, I was either going to fail (which for me is when I stop trying) or I was going to shift my mindset and give it 100%… my way.

Check out this video to see what decision I made…

It’s kind of amazing that we can totally redefine what a “fail” looks like. We should never be nervous about not being able to do something perfectly, instead let’s promise to always challenge ourselves to find the right way for our bodies… sound good?

  1. You are awesome! I live in NYC too and have been trying to get back to do doing some kind of working out – figured maybe I need a a bunch of different types of classes instead of a repetitive routine every day and I had looked into that class you just took… I may still take it! It was definitely not a “Fail” for you – you actually WENT to the class – and that in itself is a WIN and an inspiration, thank you!
