All Leather Everything!

November 18 2014 | CeCe Olisa

How to Wear Plus Leather CollageI always felt like leather was too daring of a fabric and would call attention to my body in the “wrong ways” whatever that means. This season, I got a little daring and ordered two leather items. A Plus Size Leather Dress and Plus Size Leather Leggings… and I’m in love!

I wear this look to work often. Because the dress is cut in a modest A-line it manages to still feel office appropriate and transitions well from day to night. Throwing a cardigan over this dress seemed to obvious, so instead I chose to put a simple denim shirt underneath.

I pretty much wear leggings and a sweater as much as I can during the winter– this is just an amped up version of that. This thick cable knit sweater and leather legging combo is perfect for anything from an event to hanging with my girlfriends.

I like to pair my leather with fabrics that are less striking. Denim and knit fabrics are an easy way to balance out the boldness of leather, while still feeling like I’m taking a little fashion risk. Sprinkling leather pieces into my closet is lots of fun– here are some other plus size leather items (both real and faux) that I have my eye on (click the images for discounts and pricing). How do you girls feel about wearing leather?

Hi, CeCe! I just read your article over on Refinery29, and was really inspired by it. I’m also inspired by this post, too, because I have always drooled over leather leggings and skirts etc, but have been too afraid to “call attention” to my body just as you mention. You look so fierce in the leather, I am going to try some on myself and rock it!

    Thanks, lady 🙂

I always like leather, it’s just hard to find something that fits me well but I did buy a leather moto jacket that I love and looks good. It works for my personality. 🙂 I prefer to wear real leather because I find that faux is very difficult to get right. If you don’t get a high quality faux piece, the material puckers oddly at seams and hems, doesn’t lie correctly because it doesn’t have the weight of leather, has horrendous wrinkling or looks fake. Can you tell I’m picky? I’d rather not wear it if it doesn’t look right.

You look amazing, CeCe!!! I wish these pieces were in real leather though. I just can’t get with the faux stuff. Asos had some amazing real leather pants with stretch panels that I bought on sale last year for under $80 that are perfection. Anyone know of retailers that are selling real leather plus size options?

Keep bringing the fierceness, Ms. CeCe!

Wow, gorgeous, Cece! One question for you… I love the pairing of the denim shirt underneath the dress, but how you look so sleek? I’ve tried similar looks before, but the shirt always ends up bunchy and lumpy under the dress. Do you wear a smaller size shirt? Or maybe a larger size dress? It all just looks so smooth on you… I’m envious 🙂

LOL! *blushing* I honestly just threw it on under the dress, but some tips I’d offer 1.) the denim shirt I have is cut perfectly, I’ve had others that were bunchy in the arms or waist and I never did stuff like this with them. 2.) In a pinch, tuck the denim shirt into your tights or light shapewear to keep things in place… hope that helps! xo
