Meet #PSPfit girl, Jeke!

January 16 2013 | CeCe Olisa
When it comes to “before & after” pictures, I feel like its always people who have lost 1 zillion pounds. You know, the people standing inside of one pant leg of their old “fat pants”? Yeah… they get all the weight loss glory and its not fair. Something I’ve noticed is that my weight loss is evident every 10 pounds or so. But when you’ve lost 10, 20, 30 pounds sometimes it feels minimal, until you see it on someone else. I was going through the #PSPfit timeline and ran across a before & after picture of Jeke from the twin +size blogging duo La Maison Deux. I was so impressed at her transformation and shocked to find out that she’s at the 30+ pound mark just like me… it really helped put things in perspective. Let’s hear from Jeke, herself, check out our interview below:

How much weight have you lost?
I have lost a total of 32lbs since I truly started my journey and I feel incredible!
How much time did it take?

As many of us who struggle with weight loss, I’ve lost and gained and lost and gained. When it finally “clicked”  for me, when I took my lifestyle seriously it took me about 1.5 months to lose those pounds. I still have more to go but I’m in the right mindset.

What’s your weight loss “process” (weight watchers, Jenny Craig, clean eating?)

I started training with a personal trainer, Dan Diezy based in NYC. I have to thank him for breaking me mentally; he pushed me farther than I thought I could ever go! Of course following a strict diet initially but I started modifying my meals to my work life and lifestyle because being extremely strict didn’t work for me. I have a very demanding job and also work on our blog so I needed to adjust in order to achieve my goals. Keeping a journal of what I eat also helps me see what successes I’ve had. I use MyFitnessPal to track my calorie intake, its an incredible tool to track progress as well. (My twin) Jeka is also a great motivator, she eats extremely clean and that puts me in check when I’m having my cravings. It always great to have her as a supporter whose also in this with me.

How have people reacted to your weight loss?

Honestly, I sometimes look in the mirror and don’t see what people are seeing. People have said “Oh wow, you’ve lost so much weight! What did you do?” It’s baffles me that people are asking the fat girl about health advice, its a mindfreak honestly. People also congratulate me on what I have achieved, which is also a personal gold star for me, it boosts my ego to see that my hard work is paying off and I’m hopefully motivating others to do the same.

Has #PSPfit been helpful?
It definitely has been a inspirational and educational tool. To have a community of people, encouraging and experiencing the same process is motivating. We all have our off days and sometimes I’ll just see a photo of someone working out early mornings and that encourages me to get off my butt and get in the gym!
How has your weight loss affected your fashion?
Working in the fashion industry my weight loss has affected my style tremendously. I find myself purchasing smaller clothes and having to tailor my favorite pieces. I also have become more daring in my fashion choices. Not that I couldn’t before but I wasn’t able to find “wow” pieces that I liked in my size. Either way I think at any size you shouldn’t limit yourself.
How has your weight loss affected your dating life?
Haha! I guess you can say I’m getting more offers. I’m not sure if that’s the weight loss or just the confidence.
Anything general you want to say/advice you want to give?
There isn’t a magic pill, hard work and dedication is what you need to get to any goal you have in life. Don’t treat weight loss as a diet, its a lifestyle. As cliche or corny as that may be, I learned that the hard way. Diets are temporary but a lifestyle is a choice you make for, well, life. Also, have better friends. I cannot stress enough that you are the company you keep. If you’re friends aren’t with your lifestyle or encourage you to not go to the gym or push you to eat something not so great, then they’re not your friends! You’re more likely to succeed with people that share the same habits and lifestyle that you have. Lastly, educate yourself. Find out what’s good for the changes you are trying to make. The best place for this is a nutritionist/dietician or personal trainers. Don’t go with what worked with someone else, find out what works for your body composition. When in doubt, Google!
