Texting & Dating: Send Me Some Pics

I met Keith on the subway. He was a tall dark and handsome banker who worked on Wall Street. Keith had an arrogant air about him and after talking for a while, he asked for my card. I didn’t have one, so he offered me his number. I took it and later that night I sent him a text. Our conversation went like this:

Me: Hey there its CeCe from the train… here’s my number

Keith: Hey hun. I thought you forgot about me. Send me a pic so I can attach it to your contact.

Me: Nope, I didn’t forget about you

Keith: Good, send a photo so I remember who you are. I have 200 contacts so don’t forget that

Me: Whoa Mr. Popular!

Keith: Nah. Mr. Business Man

As most of you know, I am not a fan of the “send me a pic” phenomenon. In my opinion if you want to know (or remember) what I look like, plan a date with me!

Anyway, I really felt like he was pushing a little too hard for a picture. But he was cute and I wanted to keep things light to see if we were interested in each other. I hoped that if I ignored the requests for a photo he’d get the hint and change the subject. The next morning around 8am, I had a new text from him:

Keith: Are you going to send a pic for your contact so a month from now if we don’t speak often I know who it is?

Wow… no “good morning” or “hope you have a good day” just “send me a photo”? This guy was getting really annoying. I decided to ignore him, his approach was a total turn off and even though he was a tall, dark and handsome banker… it was pretty clear he was pushy and I wasn’t into that. An hour later he texts me again:

Keith: Lol guess not. I guess I’ll try to remember. How is your day going?

Keith finally got the hint that I wasn’t going to text my photo to a guy I met for 15 minutes on the subway. But by that time I was over him. This isn’t the first time a guy has tried to bully me into sending pics via text. Guys are so adamant about it that sometimes it makes me feel like I’m the weird one for not wanting to send them.

How soon would you text your photo to a guy you just met?

  1. I LOATHE the “send me a pic” request. Burns me up. I just end the conversation right there. I don’t need random men I am barely acquainted with having pics of me. The pushiness about it becomes creepy very quickly.

  2. Uuuuuugh. I get this too. It can come off so creepy don’t you think? Even if they aren’t asking for a dirty photo it still seems odd to me. I won’t send any sort of photo until we have been dating long enough for me to know he’s not a creepster.

  3. I hate when men are pushy like that. And yes, I too feel weird at times cos I don’t want to send a photo, and won’t. Men who bully women into what they want, half the time don’t even realize they’re doing it.

If he wants my picture, he can plan a date and remember his manners still matter via text. Note to men: think of texting like a phone conversation. If you wouldn’t talk that way on the phone, don’t do it via text, especially when you’ve just met someone.

    Moving on… next. πŸ™‚

  4. I don’t blame you! I would want to go on a couple dates with someone before they had a picture of me saved to their phone. I don’t like the idea of people I don’t know having pictures of me, lol.

  5. Why do guys think this is acceptable. I made the mistake of giving in to a guy once. I was talking to him online first, then it went to text. The demand for a photo quickly followed. I sent one, and then it quickly went seedy. Never Again! Learned my lesson, that’s for sure!

  6. See? I think it’s creepy too! I always want to be sure this is going to even get to dating or something before I do all that.

I wonder why guys think it’s ok to be so pushy. Especially. When you want a pic. Though I try to get cute and have them send one first. And the weird thing is the guy never wants to! hahaha.

  7. Guys like that are creeps and looking for photos for their spank bank. Sometimes I think its just me being too modest, but no, I have dated nice guys met from the same dating site that don’t ask. I think more and more guys are just becoming creeps!

  8. Oh my god, when I read this post, it brought back these terrible memories of when the same thing happened to me!! I feel for you girlfriend but I am so glad your post finally inspired me to write something of my own πŸ™‚

Seriously though, guys are creepy. Do they have no idea how they’re coming off or do they just not care?

  9. i hate that! they are so pushy for a pic but not for a date? like you said, you want to know how i look, set up a meet. simple, but apparently not so simple πŸ™

  10. ohhh Yeah I have got this a few times, the fella want to put a face with a name, but I am also guilty….. However I know when i do not remember the person normally I was not that excited about meeting them in the 1st place..

  11. I do love the way you have presented this particular challenge plus it does indeed supply us a lot of fodder for consideration. On the other hand, because of what I have seen, I just simply wish as the opinions pack on that folks continue to be on point and not start upon a tirade involving the news of the day. Yet, thank you for this excellent point and although I do not really go along with it in totality, I regard the viewpoint.

  12. I haven’t checked in here for some time as I thought it was getting boring, but the last several posts are good quality so I guess I will add you back to my daily bloglist. You deserve it my friend πŸ™‚
